ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

CLINICAL APPLICATION OF THE SMELL IDENTIFICATION TEST
Clinical application of the standardized "scratch and sniff" olfactory test in Japanese is described. Over 300 subjects participated in three experiments. In experiment 1, 29 odorants used in the smell identification test were rated as to their experiences. The ratios of the experiences in each combination of odorants were compared.

Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Constrained state–space system identification with application to structural dynamics
Constrained identification of state-space models representing a structural dynamic systems is addressed. Based on physical insight, transfer function constraints are formulated in terms of the state-space parametrization.

What does system identification have to offer?
This contribution concerns the application of system identification to real-life problems. What system identification has to offer depends upon the objective the user has in mind and the prior knowledge he has about the system. The authors show how these

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
