Validation and Verification of Novel Three-Dimensional Crack Growth Simulation Software GmshCrack3D

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The accurate prediction of crack initiation and propagation is essential for assessing the structural integrity of mechanically joined components and other complex assemblies. To overcome the limitations of existing finite element tools, a modular Python

Dynamics of a Relativistic Particle in Discrete Mechanics

open access: yes, 2019
The study of the evolution of the dynamics of a massive or massless particle shows that in special relativity theory, the energy is not conserved. From the law of evolution of the velocity over time of a particle subjected to a constant acceleration, it ...

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Overview of molecular signatures of senescence and associated resources: pros and cons

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cells can enter a stress response state termed cellular senescence that is involved in various diseases and aging. Detecting these cells is challenging due to the lack of universal biomarkers. This review presents the current state of senescence identification, from biomarkers to molecular signatures, compares tools and approaches, and highlights ...

Chiral multi-curved shell metamaterials integrating compression-torsion and buckling mechanisms for ideal energy absorption

open access: yesNature Communications
Metamaterials with compression-torsion or buckling mechanism have demonstrated significant potential for energy absorption. However, compression-torsion metamaterials easily trigger deformation, resulting in low load-bearing capacity, and buckling ones ...

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Autophagosome marker, LC3, is released extracellularly via several distinct pathways

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study establishes a novel HiBiT‐tagging system for ultrasensitive detection of LC3, revealing multiple pathways for its extracellular secretion. It demonstrates that LC3 is released via both autophagy‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms, including a novel route for nonlipidated LC3‐I.

Down‐regulation of Shh in the hair follicles of mice during chemotherapy‐induced hair loss is mediated by the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.
