Photon migration theory applied to 3D optical imaging of tissue

Conference Proceedings LEOS'96 9th Annual Meeting IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2002
Noninvasive optical spectroscopic imaging of tissue has considerable potential for clinical screening and monitoring metabolic status, if accurate tomographic reconstruction techniques are developed. The rationale for specific diagnosis is based on different spectroscopic signatures of intrinsic tissue or specific exogenous labels which can distinguish

Multi-dimensional time-correlated single photon counting applied to diffuse optical tomography

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
We present a multi-dimensional TCSPC technique that combines multi-detector and multiplexing capability, and records fast and virtually unlimited sequences of time-of-flight distributions. The system consists of four fully parallel TCSPC channels. Each channel records simultaneously in up to eight detection channels.

Applying optical design methods to the development of application specific photonic crystal fibres

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
Photonic Crystal Fibres (PCFs) are well known for allowing the implementation of specific waveguiding features that cannot be achieved with conventional optical fibres. This results from the design flexibility of the holey structure in the PCF cladding and/or core regions.

Fiber-optical Photon Density Wave spectroscopy applied to highly concentrated biotechnical processes

Imaging and Applied Optics 2016, 2016
Photon Density Wave (PDW) spectroscopy is a novel approach for monitoring biotechnical processes, by independently quantifying the absorption and reduced scattering coefficient of the biomaterial. Enzymatic milk coagulation, beer mashing and blood deoxygenation are discussed.

Photonic data rate reduction applied to ultrafast processing for high speed optical links

2015 6th International Conference on Computers and Devices for Communication (CODEC), 2015
In this paper, we apply photonic data rate reduction based on SOA-loop memories to Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) without the need for high speed opto-electronic conversions. The architecture presented makes use of fast optical subsystems based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers, and aided by low cost slow rate electronics; the desired header fields are

Chip-on-board packaging of high-speed optical transceiver applying silicon photonics integrated chips

2015 IEEE 17th Electronics Packaging and Technology Conference (EPTC), 2015
We demonstrate chip-on-board (COB) packaged optical module operating at data rate of 25 Gb/s based on silicon photonic integrated circuits (Si-PIC). Electrical loss and packaging criteria for high-speed data transmission in COB packaging is discussed.

Phase-sensitive optical low-coherence reflectometry technique applied to the characterization of photonic crystal fiber properties

Optics Letters, 2005
Localized measurements of group-velocity dispersion and birefringence of photonic crystal fibers are achieved with a phase-sensitive optical low-coherence reflectometry technique. This technique is efficient for fiber samples no longer than 1 m. Theoretical simulations are in good agreement with experimental results.

Fiber optic refractometer instrument used for measurement practicing in applied photonics multimedia courseware

6th International Conference on Telecommunications in Modern Satellite, Cable and Broadcasting Service, 2003. TELSIKS 2003., 2004
This paper presents development work to design multimedia courseware: applied photonics. This courseware is based on: 1) multimedia document about the basic theory of applied photonics; 2) simulation and measurement supporting multimedia programme package able solving selected CAD and CAE problems in applied photonics.

An All-Optical Binary Pattern Recognition System Applied in Photonic Firewall based on VPI Simulation

2019 24th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference (OECC) and 2019 International Conference on Photonics in Switching and Computing (PSC), 2019
An all-optical binary pattern recognition system based on XOR is simulated by VPI for the first time. The simulation results show the system can recognize and locate target in the data at 10 Gb/s and 40Gb/s.
