Photon migration theory applied to 3D optical imaging of tissue
Conference Proceedings LEOS'96 9th Annual Meeting IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2002Noninvasive optical spectroscopic imaging of tissue has considerable potential for clinical screening and monitoring metabolic status, if accurate tomographic reconstruction techniques are developed. The rationale for specific diagnosis is based on different spectroscopic signatures of intrinsic tissue or specific exogenous labels which can distinguish

Multi-dimensional time-correlated single photon counting applied to diffuse optical tomography
SPIE Proceedings, 2005We present a multi-dimensional TCSPC technique that combines multi-detector and multiplexing capability, and records fast and virtually unlimited sequences of time-of-flight distributions. The system consists of four fully parallel TCSPC channels. Each channel records simultaneously in up to eight detection channels.

Applying optical design methods to the development of application specific photonic crystal fibres
SPIE Proceedings, 2012Photonic Crystal Fibres (PCFs) are well known for allowing the implementation of specific waveguiding features that cannot be achieved with conventional optical fibres. This results from the design flexibility of the holey structure in the PCF cladding and/or core regions.

Fiber-optical Photon Density Wave spectroscopy applied to highly concentrated biotechnical processes
Imaging and Applied Optics 2016, 2016Photon Density Wave (PDW) spectroscopy is a novel approach for monitoring biotechnical processes, by independently quantifying the absorption and reduced scattering coefficient of the biomaterial. Enzymatic milk coagulation, beer mashing and blood deoxygenation are discussed.

Photonic data rate reduction applied to ultrafast processing for high speed optical links
2015 6th International Conference on Computers and Devices for Communication (CODEC), 2015In this paper, we apply photonic data rate reduction based on SOA-loop memories to Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) without the need for high speed opto-electronic conversions. The architecture presented makes use of fast optical subsystems based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers, and aided by low cost slow rate electronics; the desired header fields are

Optical Waveguiding and Applied Photonics
2013Exploration of the world of micro-/nanotechnology, thanks to recent developments, has given an added value to optoelectronics. The main goal of this book is to provide tools and methods for applied research in this specific field. All topics will be connected with each other in the book in order to guide the researcher in the creation of a research ...

Localized measurements of group-velocity dispersion and birefringence of photonic crystal fibers are achieved with a phase-sensitive optical low-coherence reflectometry technique. This technique is efficient for fiber samples no longer than 1 m. Theoretical simulations are in good agreement with experimental results.
