Photonic data rate reduction applied to ultrafast processing for high speed optical links
2015 6th International Conference on Computers and Devices for Communication (CODEC), 2015In this paper, we apply photonic data rate reduction based on SOA-loop memories to Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) without the need for high speed opto-electronic conversions. The architecture presented makes use of fast optical subsystems based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers, and aided by low cost slow rate electronics; the desired header fields are

Localized measurements of group-velocity dispersion and birefringence of photonic crystal fibers are achieved with a phase-sensitive optical low-coherence reflectometry technique. This technique is efficient for fiber samples no longer than 1 m. Theoretical simulations are in good agreement with experimental results.

An all-optical binary pattern recognition system based on XOR is simulated by VPI for the first time. The simulation results show the system can recognize and locate target in the data at 10 Gb/s and 40Gb/s.

Analysis of optical locking applied for rephasing halt in photon echoes
Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 2011Optical locking applied to rephased atoms in photon echoes is analyzed for on-demand photon storage time extension, where the storage time extension is confined by the inverse of spin inhomogeneous broadening. Both optical locking and photon storage mechanisms in atomic frequency comb echoes are discussed and compared with those in two-pulse photon ...

We report on the enhancement of system detection efficiency in a superconducting nanowire single-photon detector (SNSPD) by applying the optical cavity structure. The nanowire was made using 4-nm-thick NbN thin films and covered with an SiO cavity and Au mirror designed for 1300-1600nm wavelengths. The device is mounted into fiber-coupled packages, and

We investigate the nonlinear optical properties of a series of two-photon absorbing chromophores in the femtosecond regime using both two-photon induced fluorescence spectroscopy and the Z-scan technique. We apply a simplified sum-over-states model to the experimental data to predict nonlinear refraction.

Abstract A new broadband filter, based on the high-order band gap in one-dimensional photonic crystal (PCs) of the form Si∣air∣Si∣air∣Si∣air∣Si∣air∣Si∣air∣Si, has been designed by the plane wave expansion method (PWEM) and transfer matrix method (TMM) and fabricated by lithography.
