Effective Optimisation of the Patient Circuits of an Oncology Day Hospital: Mathematical Programming Models and Case Study

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In this paper, we first use the information we have on the patients of an oncology day hospital to distribute the treatment schedules they have in each of the visits to this centre. To do this, we propose a deterministic mathematical programming model in

Reducing wait time from referral to first visit for community outpatient services may contribute to better health outcomes: a systematic review

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2018
Background Many people wait long periods for community outpatient services. However little is known about the impact of waiting from referral to first visit on patient outcomes.

Behind the clock: elucidating factors contributing to longer clinic appointment duration and patient wait time

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2021
Background Longer wait time in ambulatory clinics can disrupt schedules and decrease satisfaction. We investigated factors associated with patient wait time (WT, check-in to examination room placement), approximate clinician time (ACT, completion of ...

Staff perspectives of a model of access and triage for reducing waiting time in ambulatory services: a qualitative study

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2019
Background Specific Timely Appointments for Triage (STAT) is an intervention designed to reduce waiting time in community outpatient health services, shown to be effective in a large stepped wedge cluster randomised controlled trial.

The Effect of Automated Mammogram Orders Paired With Electronic Invitations to Self-schedule on Mammogram Scheduling Outcomes: Observational Cohort Comparison

open access: yesJMIR Medical Informatics, 2021
BackgroundScreening mammography is recommended for the early detection of breast cancer. The processes for ordering screening mammography often rely on a health care provider order and a scheduler to arrange the time and location ...

The Burden of Surgical Cancellations and No-Shows : Quality management study from a large regional hospital in Oman

open access: yesSultan Qaboos University Medical Journal, 2016
Objectives: The operating theatre (OT) is a vital facility that utilises a considerable portion of the hospital’s budget; thus proper OT utilisation is essential. Surgical cancellation is a leading cause of OT underutilisation. This study aimed to report

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

From evaluation to discharge: a cross-sectional study of therapist satisfaction with session duration in outpatient physical therapy [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ
Background Physical therapy (PT) session duration influences satisfaction, therapeutic effectiveness, and workload. Although prior studies examined satisfaction and outcomes, limited research has described how session duration is structured across phases

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
