Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Spectral Effects of Strong Chi-2 Non-Linearity for Quantum Processing

open access: yes, 2008
Optical $\chi^{(2)}$ non-linearity can be used for parametric amplification and producing down-converted entangled photon pairs that have broad applications. It is known that weak non-linear media exhibit dispersion and produce a frequency response.

Semiclassical Faddeev approximation for electron loss in fast heavy-ion collisions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
. The ionisation of the projectile in collisions with heavy targets is described by means of the Faddeev expansion. The series is cut off after five terms which means an inclusion of higher-order interactions of the electron with both the target and the ...

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Phase diagram of the hardcore Bose-Hubbard model on a checkerboard superlattice

open access: yes, 2010
We obtain the complete phase diagram of the hardcore Bose-Hubbard model in the presence of a period-two superlattice in two and three dimensions. First we acquire the phase boundaries between the superfluid phase and the `trivial' insulating phases of ...

MPQA method applied to the plasma dispersion function

open access: yesAIP Advances
A new approximation method for the plasma dispersion function Z(ζ) is presented. Multipoint quasi-rational approximation technique is used to find a bridge function that connects the power series and the asymptotic expansion of the function Z(ζ) using ...

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

A Low-Order Series Approximation of Thin-Bed PP-Wave Reflections

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
The study of thin-bed seismic phenomena is important in crustal, exploration and engineering seismology. Presently, seismic reflectivity theories based on single-interface assumption are widely used though they are only suitable for thick deposits.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.
