Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

The Theory and Applications of Hölder Widths

open access: yesAxioms
We introduce the Hölder width, which measures the best error performance of some recent nonlinear approximation methods, such as deep neural network approximation. Then, we investigate the relationship between Hölder widths and other widths, showing that

Approximation and Entropy Numbers of Embeddings Between Approximation Spaces

open access: yesConstructive Approximation, 2017
The authors present significant results concerning the degrees of compactness for the embeddings of the classical two-indexed approximation subspaces in the usual Euclidean spaces, following the approximation and the entropy numbers. As applications, one obtains the compact embeddings for some Besov spaces.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

New approximation inequalities for circular functions

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2018
In this paper, we obtain some improved exponential approximation inequalities for the functions (sinx)/x $(\sin x)/x$ and sec(x) $\sec(x)$, and we prove them by using the properties of Bernoulli numbers and new criteria for the monotonicity of quotient ...

Approximations of the Harmonic Numbers

open access: yesResults in Mathematics
Abstract The aim of this paper is to present some approximations on the harmonic numbers. Some associated asymptotic series are constructed.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Liquid biopsy epigenetics: establishing a molecular profile based on cell‐free DNA

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) fragments in plasma from cancer patients carry epigenetic signatures reflecting their cells of origin. These epigenetic features include DNA methylation, nucleosome modifications, and variations in fragmentation. This review describes the biological properties of each feature and explores optimal strategies for harnessing cfDNA ...

Rational approximations of irrational numbers

open access: yes, 2023
Given quantities $Δ_1,Δ_2,\dots\geqslant 0$, a fundamental problem in Diophantine approximation is to understand which irrational numbers $x$ have infinitely many reduced rational approximations $a/q$ such that $|x-a/q|<Δ_q$. Depending on the choice of $Δ_q$ and of $x$, this question may be very hard.

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...
