Beam-space direct localisation using passive arrays with random shape errors

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Passive localisation with high accuracy is attractive in numerous fields. Beam-space direct position determination (BS-DPD) using antenna arrays is a promising positioning method which possesses both excellent performance and moderate complexity ...

Multiple Initial Point Approach to Solving Power Flows for Monte Carlo Studies

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Power flow solvers typically start from an initial point of power injection. This paper constructs a system of multiple initial points (SMIP) to enable selection of an appropriate initial point, with the objective to achieve a balanced improvement in the

Polytopes and $C^1$-convex bodies [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2014
The face numbers of simplicial polytopes that approximate $C^1$-convex bodies in the Hausdorff metric is studied. Several structural results about the skeleta of such polytopes are studied and used to derive a lower bound theorem for this class of ...

Approximation theory for matrices [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B - Proceedings Supplements, 2004
We review the theory of optimal polynomial and rational Chebyshev approximations, and Zolotarev's formula for the sign function over the range (ε\leq |z| \leq1). We explain how rational approximations can be applied to large sparse matrices efficiently by making use of partial fraction expansions and multi-shift Krylov space solvers.

An Approximate Theory for Value Sensitivity [PDF]

open access: yes2015 IEEE/ACM 4th SEMAT Workshop on a General Theory of Software Engineering, 2015
The software engineering community is on a quest for general and specific theories for the discipline. Increasingly, systems constructed for today’s hyper connected world are raising issues of security and privacy, both examples of value concerns. Hence there is a need to articulate a theory for value sensitivity that software engineers can draw upon ...

Rule induction based on rough sets from information tables having continuous domains

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, 2019
Information tables having continuous domains are handled by neighborhood rough sets. Two approximations in complete information tables are extended to handle incomplete information.

ωk algorithm for multi-receiver synthetic aperture sonar based on exact analytical two-dimensional spectrum

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Based on the method of deriving two-dimensional wavenumber spectrum by using instantaneous Doppler wavenumber in bistatic synthetic aperture radar, the analytical solution of two-dimensional wavenumber spectrum of multi-receiver synthetic aperture sonar (

Universal Function Approximation by Deep Neural Nets with Bounded Width and ReLU Activations

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
This article concerns the expressive power of depth in neural nets with ReLU activations and a bounded width. We are particularly interested in the following questions: What is the minimal width w min ( d ) so that ReLU nets of width w ...

Application of tower grounding device equivalent model in the calculation of transmission line back-flashover

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2018
The modelling of tower grounding device is the key for calculation of lightning strike response and lightning withstand level. In order to solve this problem, this study proposes a method to calculate the lightning response of transmission line grounding

Several rough set models in quotient space

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, 2022
In order to deal with coarse‐grained and multi‐grained calculation problems, as well as granularity transformation problems in information system, quotient space theory is introduced in rough set theory.
