Tuna Nutriment Tracking using Trajectory Mapping in Application to Aquaculture Fish Tank [PDF]

open access: yes2020 Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications (DICTA) (2020) 1-8, 2021
The cost of fish feeding is usually around 40 percent of total production cost. Estimating a state of fishes in a tank and adjusting an amount of nutriments play an important role to manage cost of fish feeding system. Our approach is based on tracking nutriments on videos collected from an active aquaculture fish farm.

Fish farming systems diversity and implications in the Republic of Benin: Fish farm types and their economic performance

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 522-539, December 2022., 2022
Farm type delineation allows for simplifying the diversity in fish farming systems. Multivariate statistical techniques combined with the Calinski and Harabasz pseudo F statistic and bootstrapping were applied to determine the realistic number of fish farm types.

Optimizing Artemia Enrichment: A Low DHA/High EPA Protocol for Enhanced n-3 LC-HUFA Levels to Support Greater Amberjack (Seriola dumerili) Larval Rearing

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition, 2023
Most commercial products available for Artemia sp. enrichment include high levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) to boost its nutritional value, though with limited success.

Backpack electrofishing does not contribute to external signs of gas bubble trauma in sculpins

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 572-577, December 2022., 2022
Abstract We exposed prickly sculpin Cottus asper and reticulate sculpin Cottus perplexus to electroshock and sham treatments in a controlled laboratory setting to determine if backpack electrofishing contributed to or exacerbated external signs of gas bubble trauma (GBT) in fish exposed to elevated total dissolved gas (TDG) levels. Fish were exposed to

IoT based Smart Water Quality Prediction for Biofloc Aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications (IJACSA), vol. 12, no. 6, pp. 470-477, 2021,, 2022
Traditional fish farming faces several challenges, including water pollution, temperature imbalance, feed, space, cost, etc. Biofloc technology in aquaculture transforms the manual into an advanced system that allows the reuse of unused feed by converting them into microbial protein.

Aquaculture over-optimism?

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
The recent rapid growth in aquaculture production reported by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization may have inadvertently generated what we denote here as aquaculture over-optimism. An extreme form of this is the notion that we need not worry about sustaining wild fish stocks because we can meet the global need through farming.

Utilising feed effectors and automated feeders for semi‐intensive pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) production

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 540-551, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Feed effectors have been suggested to improve the efficiency of plant‐based shrimp diets by increasing attractability and palatability. This research trial aimed to expand upon previous Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) research involving plant‐based diets, feed effectors and passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) in a laboratory setting ...

Application of Machine Learning Techniques in Aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computer Trends and Technology (IJCTT) V10(3):214-215 Apr 2014. ISSN:2231-2803, 2014
In this paper we present applications of different machine learning algorithms in aquaculture. Machine learning algorithms learn models from historical data. In aquaculture historical data are obtained from farm practices, yields, and environmental data sources. Associations between these different variables can be obtained by applying machine learning

Implications of holdfast availability and patchiness on juvenile seahorse (Hippocampus reidi) condition and welfare: Simulations in captivity

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 552-561, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Seahorses (Genus Hippocampus; Family Syngnathidae) are iconic fish characterised by tails with prehensile capabilities, which develop after the transition from planktonic to benthonic lifestyle. As a result, seahorses remain attached to vegetal structures or other elements most of the time, both in the wild and under rearing conditions. In the
