Deletion of aquaporin-4 in APP/PS1 mice exacerbates brain Aβ accumulation and memory deficits

open access: yesMolecular Neurodegeneration, 2015
BackgroundPreventing or reducing amyloid-beta (Aβ) accumulation in the brain is an important therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Recent studies showed that the water channel aquaporin-4 (AQP4) mediates soluble Aβ clearance from the brain ...

Selenium biofortification: integrating one health and sustainability

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Selenium (Se) biofortification in crops has emerged as a promising strategy to address global Se deficiencies and enhance both agricultural productivity and human health. Increasing the Se content of crops through biofortification improves their resilience to abiotic and biotic stresses and boosts their nutritional value.

Genomic Survey of Genes Encoding Major Intrinsic Proteins (MIPs) and Their Response to Arsenite Stress in Pepper (Capsicum annum)

open access: yesPlants
Major intrinsic proteins (MIPs) are a super family of proteins that mediate the bidirectional concentration-dependent flux of water in particularly small solutes in fraction and some metalloids across the cell membrane.

In Vitro Evaluation of the Inhibitory Effects of Linarin on Histamine‐Induced Expression of Proinflammatory Cytokines, Mucin 5AC, and Aquaporin 5 in Human Nasal and Bronchial Epithelial Cells

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Allergic rhinitis and asthma are two prevalent chronic allergic conditions in children. Linarin, a glycosylated flavonoid derived from various plants, exhibits a wide range of biological activities. This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic potential of linarin against allergic rhinitis and asthma.

Crystal Structure of an Ammonia-Permeable Aquaporin

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2016
Aquaporins of the TIP subfamily (Tonoplast Intrinsic Proteins) have been suggested to facilitate permeation of water and ammonia across the vacuolar membrane of plants, allowing the vacuole to efficiently sequester ammonium ions and counteract cytosolic ...
