Density-Dependent Effects of Amphibian Prey on the Growth and Survival of an Endangered Giant Water Bug

open access: yesInsects, 2011
Amphibian predator–insect prey relationships are common in terrestrial habitats, but amphibian larvae are preyed upon by a variety of aquatic hemipterans in aquatic habitats.

Periacineta mexicana n. sp. (Ciliophora, Suctoria, Discophryida), Epizoic on Mexican Backswimmers of the Genus Buenoa (Insecta, Hemiptera, Notonectidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A new species of suctorian in the genus Periacineta, epibiotic on aquatic bugs (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Nepomorpha), is described on the basis of morphological characteristics of the cell body, lorica, tentacular placement, and stalk, and its 18S rRNA ...

Allantoin Crystal Formation in Bagrada hilaris (Burmeister) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) Females. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bagrada hilaris is a polyphagous herbivore reported as an invasive pest in the United States. During the course of dissecting Burmeister hilaris unique crystals were observed in both the midgut and oviducts.

Ecological aspects of Aquatic and Semi-Aquatic Heteroptera in East Maranhense

open access: yes, 2021

Seasonal dynamics of an aquatic macroinvertebrate assembly (Hydrobiological case study of Lake Balaton No. 2) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In 2002, 2003 and 2004, we took macoinvertebrate samples on a total of 36 occasions at the Badacsony bay of Lake Balaton. Our sampling site was characterised by areas of open water (in 2003 and 2004 full of reed-grass) as well as by areas covered by ...

An experimental examination of dispersal decisions made by flight‐capable heteropteran insects in urban stormwater pond conditions

open access: yesEcological Entomology, EarlyView.
Salty conditions in urban stormwater ponds can influence dispersal timing in species‐specific ways for actively dispersing aquatic heteropteran insects. Assaying multiple aspects of dispersal propensity, Hesperocorixa obliqua emigrated earlier in stormwater pond conditions while overall probabilities remained unchanged; Notonecta undulata emigration ...

open access: yes, 2003
Collecting data of 76 species of water beetles (9 Haliplidae, 21 Dytiscidae, 2 Noteridae, 2 Gyrinidae, 2 Hydrochidae, 13 Helophoridae, 27 Hydrophilidae) and 20 species of water bugs (1 Mesoveliidae, 1 Hydrometridae, 1 Veliidae, 5 Gerridae, 2 Nepidae ...

More Is Not Always Better: Selective Trait Filtering Governs Assembly Under Emerging Flow Intermittency

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
The study examined how increasing flow intermittency affects macroinvertebrate community organisation in newly drying headwater streams. Results showed that drying selectively filters species and trait states, with resistance‐ and resilience‐related survival strategies responding differently to increasing intermittency.

When do beetles and bugs fly? A unified scheme for describing seasonal flight behaviour of highly dispersing primary aquatic insects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Many authors investigated the dispersal flight of aquatic insects, but the exact length of the seasonal flying periods and its main characteristics have not been determined.
