Voltinism and Laboratory Rearing of \u3ci\u3eMicrovelia Hinei\u3c/i\u3e (Heteroptera: Gerromorpha: Veliidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Voltinism in Microvelia hinei was studied in southern Illinois during 1989 and 1990. This species apparently overwintered as adults, which became active in late April; adults were last collected in late September. First instars were found from mid-May to

Impact of the Highly Invasive Signal Crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus) on Freshwater Macroinvertebrate Communities

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 71, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Invasive non‐native species threaten freshwater ecosystems, disrupting the functioning and structure of the food chain and potentially leading to biodiversity loss. As omnivores, crayfish can modify their environment, directly affecting organisms such as macroinvertebrates.

Who eats whom in a pool? A comparative study of prey selectivity by predatory aquatic insects. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Predatory aquatic insects are a diverse group comprising top predators in small fishless water bodies. Knowledge of their diet composition is fragmentary, which hinders the understanding of mechanisms maintaining their high local diversity and of their ...

Exploring the phylogenetic history of water striders (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Gerromorpha) using genome‐skimming

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 1, January‐March 2026.
Using genome‐skimming, we provide a robust and comprehensive phylogeny of the Gerridae. Our data support the monophyly of all subfamilies except paraphyletic Gerrinae. Non‐monophyly was found for Gerrini, Metrobatini and Trepobatini. Additionally, we reaffirm the non‐monophyly of the genera Aquarius and Tenagogonus, both part of the Gerrinae.

An Upper Cretaceous arthropod assemblage from Villaggio del Pescatore (Campanian, Italy) and its implications for peri‐Tethyan palaeobiogeography and palaeoecology

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 11, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
Abstract The Villaggio del Pescatore (VdP) fossil Lagerstätte represents the most significant Upper Cretaceous (lower–middle Campanian) palaeontological locality in Italy and the Mediterranean region. We present the first systematic revision of the VdP fossil assemblage with a focus on its previously undescribed arthropod fauna, providing new insights ...
