Assessment of heavy metal accumulation in Anzali wetland, Iran, using a submerged aquatic plant,Ceratophyllum demersum

African Journal of Aquatic Science, 2011
The objective of this study in 2009 was to examine whether levels of cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr) were higher in the leaves than in the stems of a submerged aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum in Anzali wetland. Cadmium, Pb and Cr concentrations were highest in the leaves.

Enhanced nitrate reduction in water by a combined bio-electrochemical system of microbial fuel cells and submerged aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum

Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2019
High nitrate (NO3-) loading in water bodies is a crucial factor inducing the eutrophication of lakes. We tried to enhance NO3- reduction in overlying water by coupling sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFCs) with submerged aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum.

Antagonist Effects of Sodium Chloride on the Biological Responses of an Aquatic Plant (Ceratophyllum demersum L.) Exposed to Hexavalent Chromium

Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 2014
In this study, the concentration-dependent joint action of chromium (Cr) and salt (NaCl), two important environmental stressors, was examined in aquatic plants. Ceratophyllum demersum L. plants were exposed to Cr (0–10 mM) for 5 days in the presence and absence of NaCl (0–500 mM).

Effects of CO2 concentration and light intensity on photosynthesis of a rootless submerged plant, Ceratophyllumdemersum L., used for aquatic food production in bioregenerative life support systems

Advances in Space Research, 2003
In addition to green microalgae, aquatic higher plants are likely to play an important role in aquatic food production modules in bioregenerative systems for producing feed for fish, converting CO2 to O2 and remedying water quality. In the present study, the effects of culture conditions on the net photosynthetic rate of a rootless submerged plant ...

Removal of aluminum by aquatic plants Ceratophyllum demersum and Chara fragilis from water of experimental ecosystems

Russian Journal of General Chemistry, 2016
Changes in the concentration of the aluminum ions in water of experimental systems (microcosms) have been studied. The Al ion concentration was measured by the fluorescent method. As macrophytes for microcosm incubation served hornwort Ceratophyllum demersum and stonewort Chara fragilis, with the latter hydrobiont used for the first time in similar ...

Insecticidal activity of in vitro propagated aquatic plant Ceratophyllum demersum L against granary weevil on Sitophilus granarius L Coleoptera Curculionidae

2016
Insecticidal activities of methanol and water extracts obtained from in vitro propagated of Ceratophyllum demersum L., were tested on adults of the granary weevil Sitophilus granarius L.. In vitro shoot regeneration was achieved from shoot tip explants of C. demersum cultured on liquid Murashige and Skoog (MS) media containing various combinations of 6-
