Aqueous Humor Cytology in Uveitis
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1973A method has been developed to evaluate the type of cell, its characteristics, and possible infectious activity in patients with acute and chronic anterior inflammation of endogenous origin. The characteristics of the cells identified in several inflammatory diseases are described.

Segmental Aqueous Humor Outflow
Of the known risk factors for glaucoma, elevated intraocular pressure (IOP), is the primary one. The conventional aqueous humor outflow pathway contains the key source of IOP regulation, which is predominantly the trabecular meshwork (TM). Studies of outflow have demonstrated that the outflow pathway is not uniform around the circumference of the eye ...Mary J, Kelley, Mini, Aga, Ted S, Acott

The science of Galen prevailed until Andreas Vesaleus revealed by his dissection of the ocular tissue of man that the anterior humor of the eye did not resemble the white of an egg but was of a watery nature. Jacob Hovius (1702) some years later described the influx and efflux of this watery fluid in the anterior part of the eye.

Aqueous-Humor Concentrations of Amikacin
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1983To the Editor. —Wingfield et al, in the JanuaryArchives(1983;101:117-120), reported on aqueous humor concentrations of amikacin following 7.5-mg/kg doses injected intramuscularly in man. While we found their data to be of interest, we disagree with several of their statements.

Aqueous humor dynamics: Experimental studies
Experimental Eye Research, 1973Abstract Experimental measurements have been made in vitro of the reflection coefficient (σs) of the ciliary epithelium to NaCl, sucrose, urea and dextran, with the first three substances having a σ of 0·02 and dextran a σ of unity. Plasma or blood separated from aqueous or Ringer by the ciliary epithelium exerted an osmotic pressure of 20·8 mmHg. In

Serotonin in Human Aqueous Humor
Ophthalmology, 1988Circadian rhythms in serotonin metabolism have been observed in the pineal gland and retina, and there is evidence that the levels of serotonin and melatonin in these tissues may mediate events in the brain's sleep-wake cycle and the retina's cycle of disc shedding.

In the last sixty years, considerable has been written on the mechanism of production of the intra-ocular fluids. The experimental evidence discloses many discrepancies which must be cleared away before the whole situation can be understood. Those who have studied the subject are still far from an agreement as to the mode of formation of the intra ...

Measurement of aqueous humor flow
Experimental Eye Research, 2009Aqueous humor flow, one of the primary determinants of intraocular pressure, has been measured non-invasively in the human eye since the early 1950s. Other than sleep, which decreases flow rate to approximately half of what it is during alert wakefulness, few conditions affect flow rate.

Intraocular pressure is mainly controlled by the rate of aqueous humor production and the resistance to its outflow. Aqueous humor formation is the result of fast unidirectional secretion and slow contradirectional reabsorption. The most striking evidence of endogenous regulation of the ciliary epithelial secretion is provided by the observation of the

To be standing here today is one of the big events of my life. It is indeed curious how many of the happiest experiences I have had have occurred in this country or have been associated with Americans in many parts of the world.
