Analysis of the regulation of undecaprenyl diphosphate dephosphorylation in Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
BacA, PgpB, and YbjG phosphatases are involved in undecaprenyl phosphate (C55P) synthesis in Escherichia coli. We analyzed the lipid contents and the gene expression in the gene‐disruption strains. Undecaprenyl diphosphate (C55PP) level increased in the bacA, ybjG double‐disruption strain, but C55P levels were similar in all strains.

Use of the theory of Lifshitz-Slyosov-Wagner for the evaluation of the aqueous solubility of dodecane [PDF]

open access: yesRCEIF 5: 16-19 (2016), 2016
The solubility of dodecane was determined using the theory of Lifshitz-Slyosov-Wagner for the Ostwald ripening phenomenon. For this purpose, a set of dodecane in water nanoemulsions stabilized with sodium dodecylsulfate was prepared. The average cubic radius of the dispersions was followed as a function of time for volume fractions between 0.001 and 0 ...

An uncharged oxetanyl sulfoxide as a covalent modifier for improving aqueous solubility.

open access: yesACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2014
Low aqueous solubility is a common challenge in drug discovery and development and can lead to inconclusive biological assay results. Attaching small, polar groups that do not interfere with the bioactivity of the pharmacophore often improves solubility,

Association Between Metabolic Syndrome and Radiographic Changes in Psoriatic Arthritis: A Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a known comorbidity of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and is associated with PsA disease activity. We aimed to explore the association between MetS and radiographic features (peripheral and axial) in PsA. Methods We included patients with PsA followed at our prospective observational cohort for the period between 1978 ...

A Physical Mechanism Underlying the Increase of Aqueous Solubility of Nonpolar Compounds and the Denaturation of Proteins upon Cooling [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
The increase of aqueous solubility of nonpolar compounds upon cooling and the cold denaturation of proteins are established experimental facts. Both phenomena have been hypothesized to be related to restructuring of the hydrogen bond network of water around small nonpolar solutes or hydrophobic amino acid side chains.

Glucosamine HCl-based solid dispersions to enhance the biopharmaceutical properties of acyclovir [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The objective of the work presented here was to assess the feasibility of using glucosamine HCl as a solid-dispersion (SD) carrier to enhance the biopharmaceutical properties of a BCS class III/IV drug, acyclovir (ACV). The solid-dispersions of acyclovir

Mechanisms of burst release from pH-responsive polymeric microparticles. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Microencapsulation of drugs into preformed polymers is commonly achieved through solvent evaporation techniques or spray drying. We compared these encapsulation methods in terms of controlled drug release properties of the prepared microparticles and ...

Using a Supramolecular Approach to Engineer Modular Hydrogel Platforms for Culturing Protoplasts – from General Tissue Engineering to Cellular Agriculture

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Using supramolecular monomers, various hydrogel culture systems were formulated to culture protoplasts; including 2D, 2.5D, and 3D hydrogels. Depending on the culture platform, bioactive functionalization led to protoplast enlargement (2D and 2.5D) or plasmolysis (3D). This work shows the potential to modularly engineer synthetic platforms for cellular
