Selection of elastomeric membranes for the removal of volatile organics from water [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
A wide range of homogeneous elastomeric membranes has been prepared using dicumylperoxide as a general cross-linking agent. The membranes have been used for both equilibrium sorption measurements and steady-state pervaporation experiments to study ...

The Bunsen gas solubility coefficient of ethylene as a function of temperature and salinity and its importance for nitrogen fixation assays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The acetylene reduction assay is a common method for assessing nitrogen fixation in a variety of marine and freshwater systems. The method measures ethylene, the product of the conversion of the gas acetylene to its reduced form by nitrogenase. Knowledge

Solubility of Membrane Proteins in Aqueous Media

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1971
Abstract Human red blood cell ghosts are severely disrupted by the removal of inorganic cations, and in the presence of 5 x 10-3 m EDTA or 0.1 m (CH3)4NBr the membrane proteins are almost totally soluble in aqueous media without the use of detergents or organic solvents.

Hydrogel‐Based Capacitive Sensor Model for Ammonium Monitoring in Aquaculture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Traditional techniques for monitoring aquaculture water quality, particularly ammonium levels, harm fish. This work presents a novel capacitive sensor with an ionic hydrogel transducer to monitor ammonium concentration in real time based on the ammonium‐induced hydrogel dissociation and osmotic pressure. Monitoring aquaculture water quality, especially
