Effects of soil physical properties on dung beetle assemblages in pasture landscapes of the Brazilian Cerrado

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 169-181, May 2026.
We assessed the effect of the type of soil texture (loamy sand and sandy loam) and its physical properties on dung beetle species assemblages in a pastureland region of the Brazilian Cerrado. We found a reduction in the total and paracoprid beetle abundances in loamy sand soil. Furthermore, the increase of soil compaction negatively affected the entire

Moscas frugívoras (Diptera, Tephritoidea) coletadas em Aquidauana, MS Frugivorous flies (Diptera, Tephritoidea) collected in Aquidauana, MS

Diversity, similarity and trophic guild of chiropterofauna in three southern Pantanal sub-regions, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil=Diversidade, similaridade e guilda alimentar da quiropterofauna em três sub-regiões do Pantanal Sul, Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil [PDF]

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2012
In the Brazilian Pantanal, virtually no studies of communities of bats, despite the richness of spcies. As the chiropterofauna in the Pantanal is still poorly known, this works purpose was to verify the diversity, trophic guild and similarity in three ...

Global impacts of agricultural and timber plantations on dung beetle biodiversity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 4, April 2026.
In vulnerable areas, protecting natural forests can help to reduce biodiversity loss. When economic and social contexts, such as in the Neotropical and Oriental regions, hinder conservation strategies, establishing small‐scale plantations of native, structurally diverse species connected to remaining forests may enhance dung beetle diversity, likely ...

What Goes First? Effects of Starvation on the Body Condition of a Neotropical Dung Beetle

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 4, Page 321-328, April 2026.
We investigated how prolonged starvation affects key physiological traits in the dung beetle Dichotomius bos. Prolonged starvation leads to significant reductions in body dry mass and fat reserves, while muscle mass remains unchanged. These findings indicate that dung beetles prioritize the maintenance of locomotor muscles while mobilizing stored ...
