Damage Characteristics and Stress Distribution Law of Overburden Rock in Multiple Mining of Close Coal Seams

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study on close coal seams shows that multi‐seam mining increases the height of the fractured zone from approximately 26 m (single upper‐seam mining) to about 49 m. When the lower seam is mined after the extraction of the upper seam, the heights of both the caved zone and the fractured zone increase by approximately two times.

Use of Hydrogen Energy Storage to Stabilize Solar Power Output With an Energy Efficiency Analysis for European Union Member Countries

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Photovoltaic solar power production can be stabilized using hydrogen energy storage. Gaseous hydrogen is produced, compressed, stored, and consumed in fuel cells to provide a constant power output. ABSTRACT Seasonal energy storage as compressed hydrogen offers a potential solution to balance the power grid as intermittent renewable energy sources are ...

Fracture Development Mechanism of Water‐Isolating Soil Layers During Downward Mining of Shallow‐Buried Coal Seam Groups

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study systematically investigates the fracture development mechanisms of water‐isolating soil layers under the coupled effects of repeated mining and groundwater seepage during the downward mining of shallow‐buried coal seams. The findings provide a theoretical basis for evaluating stratum stability and preventing roof water inrush.

Groundwater Exploration for Rural Water Supply in an Arid Region of Southern Argentina

open access: yesGeosciences, 2016
Climate change has led to an increase in extreme weather events and desertification of vast areas of southern Argentina. Water shortages are a major concern, and this problem is expected to be exacerbated in the future.

Securing Water in a Changing Climate: A Transient Solar Desalination Model for the Sundarbans, Bangladesh

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract presents a solar‐powered reverse osmosis (RO) system for the Sundarbans, Bangladesh. Mechanistic modeling reveals a critical seasonal mismatch: during the monsoon, feed water salinity peaks (24.8 ppt) while solar irradiance drops significantly.

Post‐Stimulation Hydraulic Response and Productivity Constraints of a Low‐Productivity Carbonate Geothermal Well in the Small Intramontane Basin, Beijing Piedmont, North China

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Formed ~1.4 Ga, the carbonate reservoir of the Jixian System is a key geothermal reservoir in northern China. Differential basin–mountain evolution since the Cenozoic led to distinct reservoir‐forming histories; consequently, this same reservoir shows marked productivity contrasts between intramontane basins and the large rift Bohai Bay Basin ...

Turning Water to Wine: An Analysis of Texas Wine Industry Water Management

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Texas wine industry is expanding in scale and reputation during a period when sustainability concerns are increasingly visible and valuable to grape growers and wine producers in Texas. Most vineyard hectarage in Texas is in the High Plains and Hill Country American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), which rely on regional aquifers for water. With

Multiobjective Simulation–Optimization of Crop Allocation and Water Resources in Canal Command Areas Using Genetic Algorithms

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study develops an integrated simulation–optimization framework for sustainable crop allocation and water resource management in the Bargarh Canal Command (BCC), eastern India. Efficient irrigation allocation remains a critical challenge due to competing demands, groundwater–surface water interactions and environmental constraints ...

Remote Sensing for Irrigation Water Management—The State of the Art and Prospects for Near‐Future Operations

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A recent UN report describes many regions as facing ‘water bankruptcy,’ a condition in which available water resources can no longer meet existing demands. In practice, this means irrigation will likely bear the greatest burden of future water‐use reductions, a complicated and fraught decision to make given its critical role in food security ...

Transforming Agricultural Water Management for Healthy People and Planet: Thinking Beyond Water

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper develops the concept of Thinking Beyond Water, a transdisciplinary paradigm that reframes agricultural water management (AWM) as a systems catalyst for planetary health, equity, justice and resilience. Moving beyond conventional irrigation‐centric models, we reimagine AWM through integrative frameworks such as the planetary ...
