A Survey on Arabic Handwritten Character Recognition
SN Computer Science, 2020There are much heavy studies on handwritten character recognition (HCR) for nearly previous four decades. The research on some of the common script like Arabic, Indian and Chinese has been done. This manuscript presents a survey of character recognition on Arabic script, and most of the popular published paper methods are summarized and also analyzed ...

Recognition of handwritten cursive Arabic characters
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1994An automatic off-line character recognition system for handwritten cursive Arabic characters is presented. A robust noise-independent algorithm is developed that yields skeletons that reflect the structural relationships of the character components. The character skeleton is converted to a tree structure suitable for recognition.

On-line recognition of handwritten isolated arabic characters
Pattern Recognition, 1989Abstract This paper is concerned with the recognition of isolated handwritten Arabic characters drawn on a graphic tablet. At first, features that are suitable for recognition are proposed. Features that are found to be independent of the writer style are represented as a list (vector) of integer values, while those that are subjected to more ...

On-line recognition of handwritten Arabic characters
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1990Arabic characters are always in cursive script. Handwritten words were entered into an IBM PC via a graphics tablet and a segmentation process applied to the points; the length and the slope of each segment was then found, and the slope categorized into one of four directions. In the learning process, specifications on the strokes of each character are

Real-time arabic handwritten character recognition
Pattern Recognition, 1990Abstract This paper considers the development of a real-time Arabic handwritten character recognition system. The shape of an Arabic character depends on its position in a given word. The system assumes that characters result from a reliable segmentation stage, thus, the position of the character is known a priori.

A novel fuzzy approach for handwritten Arabic character recognition
Pattern Analysis and Applications, 2015The aim of our work is to present a new method based on structural characteristics and a fuzzy classifier for off-line recognition of handwritten Arabic characters in all their forms (beginning, end, middle and isolated). The proposed method can be integrated in any handwritten Arabic words recognition system based on an explicit segmentation process ...

A Comparative Study of Persian/Arabic Handwritten Character Recognition
2012 International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2012In recent years, many techniques for the recognition of Persian/Arabic handwritten documents have been proposed by researchers. To test the promises of different features extraction and classification methods and to provide a new benchmark for future research, in this paper a comparative study of Persian/Arabic handwritten character recognition using ...

Contribution on Character Modelling for Handwritten Arabic Text Recognition
2017Arabic script is considered to be one of the most complex writing systems, which complicate the text recognition task. Among its complexities, the shape of the character depends according to its position in the word. More than 170 different shapes could be constructed to represent 28 basic letters; some of them are more used than others in the Arabic ...
