Multiple classifier hierarchical architecture for handwritten Arabic character recognition

IJCNN'99. International Joint Conference on Neural Networks. Proceedings (Cat. No.99CH36339), 2003
Combining decisions from several classifiers can be used to improve on the results of handwritten characters recognition. There are different methods to combine these decisions, most of which are static. We present an architecture that integrates learning into the voting scheme used to aggregate individual decisions.

The analysis of error in an on-line recognition system of Arabic handwritten characters

Proceedings of 3rd International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2002
In this paper we describe a system that recognizes on-line Arabic handwriting characters. In this system, a dynamic programming algorithm is implemented. We present here the effects of some parameters of the system on its performances and on its recognition errors.

ICDAR 2009 Handwritten Farsi/Arabic Character Recognition Competition

2009 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2009
In recent years, the recognition of Farsi and Arabic handwriting is drawing increasing attention. This paper describes the result of the ICDAR 2009 competition for handwritten Farsi/Arabic character recognition. To evaluate the submitted systems, we used large datasets containing both binary and gray-scale images.

Recognition of printed and handwritten Arabic characters

1997
Within the image processing arena, the field of pattern recognition or matching has been the focus of extensive research. Many researchers have attempted to solve the problem of pattern recognition in general, while many others have been interested in the specific problem of character recognition because of its potential application.

An Efficient Segmentation Algorithm for Arabic Handwritten Characters Recognition System

Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing, 2015
If the pre-processing phase, in optical character recognition systems, is the heart of the recognition process, the segmentation stage is the "aorta" of this heart. This paper introduce a reliable segmentation technique for Arabic handwritten script. Number of techniques like, script height, character width, pen thickness and word/subword gaps are used

Investigation on deep learning for off-line handwritten Arabic character recognition

Cognitive Systems Research, 2018
Abstract Handwritten character recognition is a system widely used in the modern world and it is still an important challenge. Traditional machine-learning techniques require careful engineering and considerable domain expertise to transform raw data into a feature vector from which the classifier could classify the input pattern.

Recognition of Segmented Online Arabic Handwritten Characters of the ADAB Database

2011 10th International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications and Workshops, 2011
The aim of this work is to fill a void in the literature of Arabic handwriting recognition by studying the performance of different feature extraction methods on online segmented Arabic characters. The contribution of this paper is to introduce a large database of segmented online handwritten Arabic characters and report the performance of various ...

Efficient Way of Feature Extraction for the Recognition of Handwritten Arabic Characters

2017
The fact that Arabic script is semi-cursive and the direction is from right to left has an effect on the shape of the characters, also the baseline helps to differentiate between characters. Unfortunately, this information is implicit. To take advantage of this information, character recognition is considered according to two visions: global and local.

Handwritten Arabic character recognition based on SVM Classifier

2008 3rd International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies: From Theory to Applications, 2008
This paper describes new methods for handwritten Arabic character recognition. We propose a novel algorithm for smoothing image and segmentation of the Arabic character using width writing estimated from skeleton character. The moments and Fourier descriptor of profile projection and centroid distance are used as features of each character these ...
