2.1. Transgenic Arabidopsis synthesises benzoxazinoids Previous experiments to transfer GDIBOA biosynthesis to Arabidopsis by first generating individual Bx -gene transgenics and consecutive merging by crossing were not successful. Since in this approach the six essential genes of the pathway (Fig. 1) were driven by the cauliflower mosaic virus 35S

Embryogenesis in higher plants consists of two major phases, morphogenesis and maturation. Morphogenesis involves the establishment of the embryo's body plan, whereas maturation involves cell expansion and accumulation of storage macromolecules to prepare for desiccation, germination and early seedling growth.

Arabidopsis thaliana is a small weed in the mustard family. It has been a convenient subject for studies in classical genetics for over forty years (35, 76). Recently, investigators have recognized that this flowering plant also has a genome size and genomic organization that recommend it for certain experiments in molecular genetics (41, 56, 57). As a

Ethyl methane sulfonate (EMS) mutagenesis in Arabidopsis is the most widely used mutagenesis technique. EMS has high mutagenicity and low mortality and can be used in any laboratory with a fume hood. The chemical principle of EMS mutagenesis is simple; it is based on the ability of EMS to alkylate guanine bases, which results in base mispairing.

Arabidopsis Mitochondrial Proteomics
2007Significant efforts have sought to uncover the protein profile of Arabidopsis mitochondria to act as a model for the mitochondrial proteome from plants. A combination of techniques have been undertaken to achieve this goal. We outline a basic two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE) separation of mitochondrial proteins, in-gel ...

Abstract Arabidopsis has long been acknowledged as the 'Botanical Drosophila' with its small genome, low levels of repetitive DNA, small size and fast generation time it is an ideal molecular genetic tool for the analysis of development in higher plants.
