Plasma‐activated water to foster sustainable agriculture: Evidence and quest for the fundamentals

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
An increasing world population facing limited natural resources poses a global challenge to food security. This challenge is increasing due to climate change, which in turn is strongly affected by the food system that accounts, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), for one‐third of the global greenhouse gas emissions.

Small grassland patches are hotspots for medicinal plants and associated phytochemical diversity in European agricultural landscapes

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Besides being important components of landscape‐level biodiversity, medicinal plants are essential resources for traditional and modern healthcare. However, human‐driven biodiversity loss has resulted in the decline of medicinal plant populations. By maintaining connections between nature, culture, and people, sacred natural sites can help counteract ...

Supervised Learning of Protein Melting Temperature: Cross‐Species vs. Species‐Specific Prediction

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Protein melting temperatures are important proxies for stability, and frequently probed in protein engineering campaigns, for instance for enzyme discovery and protein optimization. With the emergence of large datasets of melting temperatures for diverse natural proteins, it has become possible to train models to predict this quantity, and the

Evaluating antibiosis resistance to cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae L., 1758) in vegetable brassicas (Brassica oleracea L.) and related C‐genome brassica species

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Nineteen Brassica accessions were screened for antibiosis resistance to Brevicoryne brassicae. Significant variation in resistance was identified. Detailed bioassays suggest that varietal effects upon aphid pre‐reproductive period conferred observed resistance.
