Calcite-Aragonite Equilibrium

Science, 1963
Calcite-aragonite equilibrium, determined with an oscillating Griggs-Kennedy squeezer over the range 100° to 575°C, is given by P = 5500 (± 500) + 12.6 (± 1.5) T where pressure is in bars and temperature is in degrees Celsius.

Aragonite cycles: diagenesis caught in the act

Sedimentology, 2006
AbstractOrganic biomarker and nannofossil assemblages are used in combination with sedimentary petrology to identify the role of diagenesis for the formation of a rhythmic calcareous succession. A record from the Early Pliocene of the Maldives (Ocean Drilling Program, ODP Leg 115) is presented containing precession and eccentricity cycles expressed as ...

Strontianite in Coral Skeletal Aragonite

Science, 1997
An x-ray spectroscopic study of scleractinian coral skeletons indicated that, although some strontium substitutes for calcium in the aragonite structure, at concentrations of about 7500 parts per million, as much as 40 percent of the strontium resides in strontianite (SrCO 3 ).

On the structure of aragonite

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science, 2005
High-resolution synchrotron powder diffraction measurements were carried out at the 32-ID beamline of the Advanced Photon Source of Argonne National Laboratory in order to clarify the structure of geological aragonite, a widely abundant polymorph of CaCO3.

Pure aragonite synthesis

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1962
By slow removal of CO/sub 2/ from Ca(HCO/sub 3/)/sub 2/ soluti on containing MgCl/sub 2/ at room temperature, pure and homogeneous aragonite crystals were obtained. During the crystal syntheses, labeling with either or both C/sup 14/ and Ca/sup 45/ was feasible. (auth)

Preparation of Aragonite Whiskers

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1995
A simple synthetic method for preparing aragonite whiskers has been developed. A suspension of CaCl 2 ‐MgCl 2 ‐Mg(OH) 2 with pH ∼9 has been prepared by adding Ca(OH)
