Arbitrary multisite two-photon excitation in four dimensions [PDF]
We demonstrate dynamic and arbitrary multisite two-photon excitation in three dimensions using the holographic projection method. Rapid response (fourth dimension) is achieved through high-speed noniterative calculation of the hologram using a video graphics accelerator board.

An ultrasound transient elastography system with coded excitation
Background Ultrasound transient elastography technology has found its place in elastography because it is safe and easy to operate. However, it’s application in deep tissue is limited.

Stationary excitation waves and multimerization in arrays of quantum emitters
We explore the features of an equally-spaced array of two-level quantum emitters, that can be either natural atoms (or molecules) or artificial atoms, coupled to a field with a single continuous degree of freedom (such as an electromagnetic mode ...

State-selective high-energy excitation of nuclei by resonant positron annihilation
In the annihilation of a positron with a bound atomic electron, the virtual γ photon created may excite the atomic nucleus. We put forward this effect as a spectroscopic tool for an energy-selective excitation of nuclear transitions.

Analysis of Parametric and Subharmonic Excitation in Push-Pull Driven Disk Resonator Gyroscopes
For micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) resonators, once the devices are fabricated and packaged, their intrinsic quality factors (Q) will be fixed and cannot be changed, which seriously limits the further improvement of the resonator’s performance. In

Efficient Excitation of High-Purity Modes in Arbitrary Waveguide Geometries [PDF]
A general method is presented for exciting discrete modes in waveguides of arbitrary geometry. Guided modes supported by the waveguide are first calculated using a finite difference frequency domain model. High efficiency holograms to excite these discrete modes are then generated using the Direct Search hologram generation algorithm. The Direct Search

2D arbitrary shape‐selective excitation summed spectroscopy (ASSESS) [PDF]
AbstractConventional single‐voxel localization for MR spectroscopy (MRS) is restricted to selecting only rectangular‐shaped regions of interest (ROIs). The complexity of tissue shapes of interest and the desire to maximize the signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) while minimizing partial‐volume effects require more sophisticated localization techniques. A group

Resolution of scanning ultrasonic imaging systems with arbitrary transducer excitation [PDF]
An analytical formulation is presented which predicts the imaging performance of broadband ultrasonic imaging systems. The effect of frequency dependent attenuation on image resolution is analysed. Examples of the case of a narrow RF pulse and a wideband FM chirp pulse excitation are presented.
