Vector-Virus Interactions and Transmission Dynamics of West Nile Virus
West Nile virus (WNV; Flavivirus; Flaviviridae) is the cause of the most widespread arthropod-borne viral disease in the world and the largest outbreak of neuroinvasive disease ever observed.

Maintenance of a host-specific minority mutation in the West Nile virus NS3
Summary: West Nile virus (WNV), the most prevalent arthropod-borne virus (arbovirus) in the United States, is maintained in a cycle between Culex spp. mosquitoes and birds.

An All‐in‐One Metabarcoding Approach to Mosquito and Arbovirus Xenosurveillance
ABSTRACT Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) has the potential to transform mosquito‐borne disease surveillance but remains under‐utilised. This study introduces a comprehensive multi‐loci metabarcoding‐based MX (molecular xenomonitoring) approach to mosquito and arbovirus surveillance, enabling parallel identification of mosquito vectors, circulating ...

Resting behaviour as a target for innovative mosquito control strategies
Abstract This work reviews and discusses how a deeper knowledge of mosquito time‐allocation, particularly resting periods, can enhance the effectiveness and deployment of classical vector control tools. As more high‐resolution data are gathered by novel tracking devices, follow‐up questions investigating mosquito behaviour are likely to arise ...

Virtual dissection of Aedes aegypti mosquito using phase‐contrast synchrotron microtomography
Abstract In this paper, in‐line phase‐contrast synchrotron microtomography was used to study the morphology of adult Aedes aegypti. These specimens are vectors of several arboviruses, causing dengue, chikungunya, Zika and yellow fever. The morphological details of this insect species are still incomplete and insufficient.

Temperature modulates immune gene expression in mosquitoes during arbovirus infection
The principal vector of dengue, Zika and chikungunya viruses is the mosquito Aedes aegypti, with its ability to transmit pathogens influenced by ambient temperature.

There were 275 studies reporting Culex abundance, 17 of which explicitly stated the motivation for the study was RVFV. Despite most studies being motivated by other topics, there was good coverage of studies reporting mosquito sampling in areas associated with the risk of RVFV outbreaks. Studies were c.

Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a re-emerging vector-borne zoonosis with a high public health and veterinary impact. In West Africa, many lineages were previously detected, but since 2020, lineage H from South Africa has been the main cause of the outbreaks ...

The genus Leptoconops is poorly investigated, despite its ecological relevance and biting nuisance. The studies in Italy focused only on the coastal areas. Inland populations of Leptoconops noei are documented for the first time in Italy. We record their presence in an area covering Siena district, Tuscany region, in an atypical environment for the ...
