MicroRNAs and other small RNAs in Aedes aegypti saliva and salivary glands following chikungunya virus infection

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Mosquito saliva facilitates blood feeding through the anti-haemostatic, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties of its proteins. However, the potential contribution of non-coding RNAs to host manipulation is still poorly understood. We analysed

Distribution and Characterisation of Tick-Borne Flavi-, Flavi-like, and Phenuiviruses in the Chelyabinsk Region of Russia

open access: yesViruses, 2022
In this work, we presented data from a two-year study of flavi-, flavi-like, and phenuiviruses circulation in the population of ixodid ticks in the Chelyabinsk region. We isolated three tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) strains from I.

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika: Spatial and Temporal Distribution in Rio de Janeiro State, 2015–2019

open access: yesTropical Medicine and Infectious Disease, 2022
Simultaneous spatial circulation of urban arboviral diseases, such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika, is a major challenge. In this ecological study of urban arboviruses performed from 2015 to 2019, we analyzed the spatial and temporal dynamics of these ...

Sexual Transmission of Arboviruses: A Systematic Review

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) are primarily maintained in nature in transmission cycles between hematophagous arthropods and vertebrate hosts, but an increasing number of arboviruses have been isolated from or indirectly detected in the ...

Genetic Variations in Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus: Challenges for Molecular Diagnostic Assays—A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Infectious Diseases
Conclusions: This report underlines the requirement of CCHFV genomic surveillance to update the molecular diagnostic assays. Moreover, the circulation of an African CCHFV strain in Iran supports previous data suggesting that Iran harbors the greatest ...

Possible Arbovirus Found in Virome of Melophagus ovinus

open access: yesViruses, 2021
Members of the Lipopteninae subfamily are blood-sucking ectoparasites of mammals. The sheep ked (Melophagus ovinus) is a widely distributed ectoparasite of sheep.

Antagonistic Ubiquitin Switching by USP7 and RNF40 Orchestrates KDM6A Homeostasis to License Coronavirus Susceptibility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identify an antagonistic ubiquitin circuit that controls cellular permissiveness to multiple coronaviruses. The deubiquitinase USP7 stabilizes the epigenetic regulator KDM6A to upregulate viral receptors, while the E3 ligase RNF40 degrades KDM6A by catalyzing K6/K11‐ubiquitin chains of KDM6A for autophagic degradation.

Transfusion-transmitted arboviruses [PDF]

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, 2010
There exists considerable risk for transfusion transmission of arboviruses due to short periods of asymptomatic viraemia in populations with variable and sometimes extremely high incidence of arboviral infections. Aside from West Nile virus, few arbovirus transfusion transmissions have been proven, mostly due to difficulties in ruling out vector-borne ...

Machine Learning‐Assisted Infectious Disease Detection in Low‐Income Areas: Toward Rapid Triage of Dengue and Zika Virus Using Open‐Source Hardware

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This study introduces an affordable machine learning platform for simultaneous dengue and zika detection using fluorine‐doped tin oxide thin films modified with gold nanoparticles and DNA aptamers. Designed for low‐cost, hardware‐limited devices (< $25), the model achieves 95.3% accuracy and uses only 9.4 kB of RAM, demonstrating viability for resource‐

Analysis of Gene Expression in Aedes aegypti Suggests Changes in Early Genetic Control of Mosquito Development

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aedes aegypti, a critical vector for tropical diseases, poses significant challenges for studying its embryogenesis due to difficulties in removing its rigid chorion and achieving effective fixation for in situ hybridization. Here, we present novel methodologies for fixation, dechorionation, DAPI staining, and in situ hybridization, enabling ...
