Is Taiwan the result of arc-continent or arc-arc collision?
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1995Abstract Conventionally, it has been accepted that the formation of Taiwan results from the collision of the Luzon arc with the Eurasian continental margin. We suggest that Taiwan results from the collision of the Luzon arc with the former Ryukyu subduction zone.

On the Embedding of (k,p)-Arcs is Maximal Arcs
Designs, Codes and Cryptography, 1999A \((k,n)\)-arc in a projective plane of order \(q\) is a set of \(k\) points no \(n+1\) on a line. The author proves that every \((k,p)\)-arc in \(\text{PG}(2,q)\), \(q=p^h\), \(p\) prime and \(k \geq qp-q+p-\frac{1}{2}{\root 4\of q}\), can be extended to a maximal arc. Using the nonexistence of maximal arcs for \(p > 2\) [\textit{S. Ball, A. Blokhuis}

The surface of a violin is complicated. Here the author suggests a procedure, in terms of polynomials and rational functions, in order to find a good approximation of the curved violin's surface. The problem is reduced, by a pure computer graphic procedure, to the determination of a particular surface reproducing the shape of a violin.

Through differntial (Wollastoferometric) inter- erometric diagnostics, the radial distributions of temperature and air particle density (at various times within a current pulse) within the arc mantle, and the timewise distributions of arc size and mantle thickness have been obtained in the region upstream of the throat in a single flow orifice nozzle ...

Summary: For centuries, romantics have praised and historians and scientists debated the mystery of Joan of Arc's exceptional achievements. How could an uneducated farmer's daughter, raised in harsh isolation in a remote village in medieval France, have found the strength and resolution to alter the course of history?
