The surface of a violin is complicated. Here the author suggests a procedure, in terms of polynomials and rational functions, in order to find a good approximation of the curved violin's surface. The problem is reduced, by a pure computer graphic procedure, to the determination of a particular surface reproducing the shape of a violin.

Summary: For centuries, romantics have praised and historians and scientists debated the mystery of Joan of Arc's exceptional achievements. How could an uneducated farmer's daughter, raised in harsh isolation in a remote village in medieval France, have found the strength and resolution to alter the course of history?

Primitive magma has been found to finally solidify as a granitic pluton after transformation to dacitic magma of a chemical composition identical to the composition of the upper continental crust. This granitic pluton and the associated cumulate also have been found to form the two-layered continental crust.

Origin of the Kunlun Mountains by arc‐arc and arc‐continent collisions
Island Arc, 1994Abstract The Kunlun Mountains were formed by early Mesozoic arc‐arc and arc‐continent collisions. The Middle Kunlun Are was the outer volcanic arc of the Paleozoic Asiatic continent, and the arc‐related magmatic activities from the Proterozoic to Mesozoic are recorded by numerous volcanic and plutonic rocks of the area.

An arc is a set of points of the \((k-1)\)-dimensional projective space over the finite field with q elements \({\mathbb F}_q\), in which every k-subset spans the space. In this article, we firstly review Glynn’s construction of large arcs which are contained in the intersection of quadrics. Then, for q odd, we construct a series of matrices \(\mathrm {
