Rapid scavenging of avian carcasses in the desert Southwest: Implications for mortality surveys not associated with infrastructure

We placed 214 avian carcasses in a desert environment at locations not associated with infrastructure and monitored their removal by scavengers using camera traps. We found that 211 of the 214 carcasses were scavenged and median persistence time was 1.53 days. None of the predictor variables were informative of carcass persistence times.

Teaching with ArcGIS Pro

For Fall semester 2016 the ABE department moved the course ASM 540 Basic GIS from ArcGIS Desktop 10.2 to ArcGIS Pro 1.3. This software from ESRI has a completely new look and feel, (ribbon-based rather than cascading menus) and is a true 64 bit application, capable of multi-threading, and built on Python 3.

Abiotic variables drive different aspects of fish community trait variation and species richness across the continental United States

Mobile consumers influence the shoreward edge of intertidal seagrass ecosystems

Ecological paradigms suggest that the environmentally stressful edge of a habitat is determined by physical factors. The work finds that, counter to these paradigms, an environmentally stressful edge can also be impacted by biotic interactions and are more complex than suggested.
