Emergence from general anesthesia and the sleep-manifold

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2014
The electroencephalogram (EEG) during the re-establishment of consciousness after general anesthesia and surgery varies starkly between patients. Can the EEG during this emergence period provide a means of estimating the underlying biological processes ...

Functional archetype and archetypoid analysis [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Statistics & Data Analysis, 2016
Archetype and archetypoid analysis can be extended to functional data. Each function is represented as a mixture of actual observations (functional archetypoids) or functional archetypes, which are a mixture of observations in the data set. Well-known Canadian temperature data are used to illustrate the analysis developed.

Rational Fine‐Tuning of MOF Pore Metrics: Enhanced SO2 Capture and Sensing with Optimal Multi‐Site Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A pore tuning strategy to amplify the multi‐site MOF‐SO2 interactions is proposed to achieve an enhanced trace SO2 capture and chemiresistive sensing in highly stable isostructural DMOFs by annelating benzene rings. This work provides a facile strategy to achieve tailor‐made stable MOF materials for specific multifunctional applications.

Prototype selection for parameter estimation in complex models

open access: yes, 2012
Parameter estimation in astrophysics often requires the use of complex physical models. In this paper we study the problem of estimating the parameters that describe star formation history (SFH) in galaxies.

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.

Band Alignment in In‐Oxo Metal Porphyrin SURMOF Heterojunctions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Porphyrin core metalation in indium‑oxo SURMOFs enables systematic tuning of band edge positions without altering the crystal structure. First‑principles calculations reveal type‑I and type‑II heterostructures as well as multi‑junction energy cascades, establishing a modular strategy for exciton funneling and charge separation in optoelectronic ...

ARCHETYPAL ANALYSIS: AN ALTERNATIVE TO CLUSTERING FOR UNSUPERVISED TEXTURE SEGMENTATION

open access: yesImage Analysis and Stereology, 2019
Texture segmentation is one of the main tasks in image applications, specifically in remote sensing, where the objective is to segment high-resolution images of natural landscapes into different cover types.

Leskov's Ledi Makbet Mtsenskogo uezda: composition and symbolic framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This article examines the distinctive Leskovian composition of recurrent, linking and overlapping detail and motifs — and the density and open-ended character of the meanings they generate — in his classic story Ledi Makbet Mtsenskogo uezda (Lady Macbeth

3D‐Printed Sulfur‐Derived Polymers With Controlled Architectures for Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rheology‐guided formulation design for direct ink writing enables the fabrication of 3D sulfur copolymer cathodes with controlled architectures for lithium‐sulfur batteries. The printed electrodes exhibit multiscale porosity and high sulfur utilization, delivering enhanced electrochemical performance compared to conventional cast electrodes.
