Design and short‐circuit current breaking test verification of a 72.5 kV single‐break fast vacuum circuit breaker

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2022
Fast clearing of a short‐circuit fault is vital to increase the transmission capacity of power grid transmission lines and improve the transient stability of a power system.

Time‐varying frequency model for electric arc furnaces [PDF]

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2021
Abstract Accurate modelling of the Electric arc furnace (EAF) is necessary to study its impact on the power systems. Here, a new model for the EAF is presented in which both non‐linearity and time‐varying characteristics are taken into account.

Test Setup Design for Measuring the Conductance in the Mechanical Part of Hybrid-Circuit-Breakers Before and After Current Commutation

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
The number of devices either providing or demanding direct current is growing more and more. This led to the renascence of DC grids and revealed a need for research. One critical component is the DC circuit breaker.

Investigations on the safe stroke of mechanical HVDC vacuum circuit breaker

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Here, a DC vacuum arc interruption test based on the hybrid high-speed actuator and the method of commutation is carried out in the synthetic loop system. The safe stroke is one of the basic breaking parameters.

Time constants for nonstationary arcs [PDF]

open access: yesZeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and nuclei, 1968
The time constants associated with the initial deviations of an arc column from a static state have been studied analytically. The basic approach is to use a Taylor series expansion in powers of time of the energy balance equation. It is assumed that the arc gas is optically thin and is in local thermal equilibrium.
