Assessing Plantar Skin Epidermal Layer in Response to Various Insole Hardness via Deep Learning Enabled Optical Coherence Tomography Analysis [PDF]
The changes in the plantar stratum corneum (SC) and the living epidermis (ED) at the big toe (T1), first metatarsal head (M1), and second metatarsal head (M2) were investigated after a controlled walking experiment on a treadmill at 3.6 mph using 80, 160, and 240 mmHg insole hardness for 10 and 20 min.

Living in the Pyrocene: Assemblage‐Wide Terrestrial Vertebrate Responses to Mega‐Fires in the Pantanal Wetlands [PDF]
More than 60% of Serra do Amolar within the Pantanal Wetlands, Brazil, was burned in 2020. Nine vertebrate species showed a dependency on forest areas, which are more vulnerable to fires in this region, despite the fire not having shown a direct effect on the occupation.

Seasonal Role Reversal of Baer's Pochard in Waterbird Association Networks [PDF]
Seasonal Network Position Shift: Baer's Pochard exhibits a marked seasonal transition in its network position within the waterbird community—functioning as a core species with high connectivity during the breeding season, but shifting to a peripheral position with reduced network centrality during winter.

Phylogeny Drives Carrion Consumption by Vertebrate Scavengers Towards Distantly Related Species [PDF]
Carrion is a highly nutritious resource that plays a key role in ecosystem functioning, but may pose pathogen risks, particularly between phylogenetically close carcass‐scavenger pairs. Using camera traps, we assessed how phylogenetic distance influenced scavenging in a Mediterranean wetland.

The recent expansion of an avian invasive species (the Cattle Egret Ardea ibis) in Algeria [PDF]
This study identifies new information on the recent distribution of an invasive bird species, the Cattle Egret Ardea ibis, in Algeria. Breeding and wintering distributions as well as breeding numbers were obtained from large-scale surveys in 1999 and ...
