Comparison of vertebrate cytochrome b and prepronociceptin for blood meal analyses in Culicoides.

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2015
To date, studies on host preferences and blood meal identification have been conducted for Culicoides species using molecular-based methods such as PCR techniques to amplify only a fragment from universal vertebrate mitochondrial genes such as Cytochrome

AG-9, an Elastin-Derived Peptide, Increases In Vitro Oral Tongue Carcinoma Cell Invasion, through an Increase in MMP-2 Secretion and MT1-MMP Expression, in a RPSA-Dependent Manner

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2020
Oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most prevalent head and neck cancers. During tumor progression, elastin fragments are released in the tumor microenvironment.

X-ray Tomography Investigation of the Quality of Architected Structures Obtained with Additive Manufacturing Processes

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2022
Additive Manufacturing (AM) appears to be the best candidate to manufacture random architected materials, as it offers significant freedom in the design of hollowed parts with complex geometry.

Applying Airborne LiDAR to Map Salt Marsh Inland Boundaries

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
The determination of rates and stocks of carbon storage in salt marshes, as well as their protection, require that we know where they and their boundaries are.

Adaptive type-2 fuzzy second order sliding mode control for nonlinear uncertain chaotic system

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, a robust adaptive type-2 fuzzy higher order sliding mode controller is designed to stabilize the unstable periodic orbits of uncertain perturbed chaotic system with internal parameter uncertainties and external disturbances.

Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.

Staphylococcus aureus vs. osteoblast: relationship and consequences in osteomyelitis.

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2015
Bone cells, namely osteoblasts and osteoclasts work in concert and are responsible for bone extracellular matrix formation and resorption. This homeostasis is, in part, altered during infections by Staphylococcus aureus through the induction of various ...

Self‐Assembled Inorganic Nanomembrane Tubes: Rolled‐Up Piezoelectrics for Microacoustic Wave‐Based Actuators and Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a self‐assembly process to generate free‐standing piezoelectric nanomembranes, forming ultracompact microtubular acoustic wave sensors and actuators. The miniaturized 3D piezoelectric platform reported in this work can be applied in telecommunication, energy harvesting, and acoustofluidics. Moreover, the 3D self‐assembly can add

Structure determination from single molecule X-ray scattering with three photons per image

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Existing methods to extract structural information from single-molecule scattering measurements require large number of photons per image. Here the authors discuss a method to reconstruct the structure of a molecule from X-ray scattering data by using ...
