A comparison of alternative strategies for choosing control populations in observational studies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Various approaches have been used to select control groups in observational studies: (1) from within the intervention area; (2) from a convenience sample, or randomly chosen areas; (3) from areas matched on area-level characteristics; and (4) nationally.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Back to Basics: Meaning of the Parameters of Fractional Order PID Controllers

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
The beauty of the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) algorithm for feedback control is its simplicity and efficiency. Those are the main reasons why PID controller is the most common form of feedback.

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

A proposition for machining error estimation based on geometric analysis of ball end milling

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
The ball end mill is used as a tool for cutting the metal mold and some complicated shape lake a screw. The demand for the precise machining of the ball end milling is increasing. The ball end milling has the unavoidable problem of machining error by the

Network-supported layered multicast transport control for streaming media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Multicast is very efficient in distributing large volume of data to multiple receivers over the Internet. Layered multicast helps solve the heterogeneity problem in multicast delivery.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

Active inductor shunt peaking in high-speed VCSEL driver design

open access: yes, 2013
An all transistor active inductor shunt peaking structure has been used in a prototype of 8-Gbps high-speed VCSEL driver which is designed for the optical link in ATLAS liquid Argon calorimeter upgrade. The VCSEL driver is fabricated in a commercial 0.25-
