Connectivity, spatial structure and the identification of priority areas for conservation of Belém area of endemism, Amazon [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2020
Human activity has prompted a rapid decline in the forested areas of the Amazon, resulting in an increase in the number of isolated forest fragments. Belém is the smallest and most deforested area of endemism in the biome.

Chiluria in a lymphatic filariasis endemic area [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2018
To establish clinical and laboratory data of individuals presenting chyluria in endemic areas.75 individuals were studied. The majority were females with an average age of 45 years residing in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. The mean time between the beginning of the presentation of chyluria and the first care service in the Serviço de Referencia ...

Distinct Systemic Sclerosis Phenotypes Related to Ethnicity: An Opportunity to Personalize Care?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The objective is to describe and compare demographic, clinical, and serological characteristics of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) according to ethnic background. Methods Participants enrolled in the Canadian Scleroderma Research Group cohort who self‐identified to a single ethnicity group were included.

Canagliflozin Alleviates Diabetic Glomerular Endothelial Injury via Melibiose in a Microbiota‐Dependent Manner

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Canagliflozin treatment reshapes the gut microbiota in DKD and elevates levels of melibiose, a metabolite derived from Roseburia intestinalis. Melibiose directly binds to and enhances the enzymatic activity of glyoxalase 1, leading to decreased methylglyoxal accumulation.

Distribution patterns of Neotropical primates (Platyrrhini) based on Parsimony Analysis of Endemicity

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The Parsimony Analysis of Endemicity (PAE) is a method of historical biogeography that is used for detecting and connecting areas of endemism. Based on data on the distribution of Neotropical primates, we constructed matrices using quadrats, interfluvial

Species richness and conservation gap analysis of karst areas: A case study of vascular plants from Guizhou, China

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2018
Guizhou province, famous for its karst landforms and rich biodiversity, is facing exceptional threats by intensive human activities, like many areas in China. As a result, Guizhou is a critical and priority area for biodiversity conservation.

DBSCAN and GIE, Two Density-Based “Grid-Free” Methods for Finding Areas of Endemism: A Case Study of Flea Beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) in the Afrotropical Region

open access: yesInsects, 2021
Areas of endemism (AoEs) are a central area of research in biogeography. Different methods have been proposed for their identification in the literature.

Correcting Apparent Priming Bias Unveils Fertilizer Nitrogen‐Risk Archetypes of Surplus and Depletion Across Asian Rice Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Correcting the apparent priming effect resolves systematic biases in Asian rice fertilizer nitrogen accounting. Net soil retention drops below 7%, while 48% of fertilizer escapes, inflicting US$98.53 billion in annual reactive‐nitrogen damages. High‐resolution mapping uncovers N‐risk archetypes across 42% of the rice area, delivering a spatially ...

Updated checklist and identification of areas of endemism of benthic amphipods (Caprellidea and Gammaridea) from offshore habitats in the SW Gulf of Mexico

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2006
An updated checklist of the benthic amphipods associated with soft bottoms in the SW Gulf of Mexico has been made and the areas of endemism have been identified. Amphipods were collected in a depth interval of 25 to 3700 m during six cruises from 1994 to

Updated estimates of biotic diversity and endemism for Madagascar—revisited after 20 years

open access: yesOryx, 2023
The terrestrial and marine biotypes of Madagascar are critical priorities for conservation, with almost unparalleled levels of endemism, species diversity and human threat for a land area of its size.
