On splitting the area under curves II
AbstractThis paper continues the author's work [3, S. Minsker, J. Differential Equations, 26, No. 3 (1977), 443–457.] on an area-splitting problem leading to the functional differential equation a′(a(x)) = a(x)x. This equation is dealt with by transforming it into the linear equation ψ′(x) = ψ(x + c), for which positive solutions on (−∞, −c) are sought.

One-Dimensional Directed Sandpile Models and the Area under a Brownian Curve
We derive the steady state properties of a general directed ``sandpile'' model in one dimension. Using a central limit theorem for dependent random variables we find the precise conditions for the model to belong to the universality class of the Totally ...

Characterising the area under the curve loss function landscape
Abstract One of the most common metrics to evaluate neural network classifiers is the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). However, optimisation of the AUC as the loss function during network training is not a standard procedure.

Multicenter Validation of the Vasoactive-Ventilation-Renal Score as a Predictor of Prolonged Mechanical Ventilation After Neonatal Cardiac Surgery [PDF]
Objectives: We sought to validate the Vasoactive-Ventilation-Renal score, a novel disease severity index, as a predictor of outcome in a multicenter cohort of neonates who underwent cardiac surgery. Design: Retrospective chart review.

On the areas under the oscillatory curves
We prove that the third-order Emden–Fowler-type equation has oscillatory non-extendable solutions with specific behavior of antiderivative.

Identifying disease-related microRNAs (miRNAs) is crucial to understanding the etiology and pathogenesis of many diseases. However, existing computational methods are facing a few dilemmas such as lacking “negative samples” (i.e.

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Support Vector Algorithms for Optimizing the Partial Area under the ROC Curve [PDF]
The area under the ROC curve (AUC) is a widely used performance measure in machine learning. Increasingly, however, in several applications, ranging from ranking to biometric screening to medicine, performance is measured not in terms of the full area ...
