The genus Astrocaryum (Arecaceae)
The palm genus Astrocaryum with 40 species is common in tropical South America extending northwards reaching Central America and Trinidad. Twenty-six species grow in Brazil, 14 in Peru, 11 in Colombia, 9 in Guyana, 9 in Suriname, 8 in Bolivia, 8 in French Guiana, 6 in Venezuela, 4 in Ecuador, 2 in Costa Rica, 2 in Panama, and 1 in Trinidad.

A revision of Desmoncus (Arecaceae)
A taxonomic revision of the Neotropical palm genus Desmoncus based on morphological data and morphometric methods was carried out. Eight hundred and fifty-one herbarium specimens were scored for 16 qualitative variables and 16 quantitative variables. Qualitative variables were divided into 15 characters and one trait.

Two New Species of Chamaedorea (Arecaceae)
Chamaedorea ponderosa from Panama and C. christinae from Colombia are named and described as new, and compared with related taxa. Chamaedorea includes over 100 species of small, dioecious, pleonanthic, understory palms restricted to neotropical, mostly moist or wet, primary rain and cloud forests from eastern and western Mexico to northern Bolivia.
