Immunomodulatory activity of argentatins A and B isolated from guayule. [PDF]
Argentatins are secondary metabolites synthesized by guayule (Parthenium argentatum A. Gray) with numerous potential medical applications. In addition to inhibiting insect growth, they are endowed with several pharmacological properties including antimicrobial and antitumorigenic activity. However, their potential as immunomodulators remains unexplored.

Semi-Synthesis and Cytotoxicity Evaluation of Pyrimidine, Thiazole, and Indole Analogues of Argentatins A–C from Guayule (Parthenium Argentatum) Resin [PDF]
Abstract Argentatins A–C (1–3), the major cycloartane-type triterpenoids of guayule resin, a byproduct of commercial rubber production, were converted into their pyrimidine (7–12), thiazole (13–15), and indole (16–18) analogues by a molecular hybridization approach.

Microbial transformation of argentatins by Cunninghamella elegans
Microbial biotransformation of argentatin A (1), isoargentatin A (2) and argentatin B (3), the cycloartane- and lanostane-type triterpenoid constituents of guayule (Parthenium argentatum) resin, with Cunninghamella elegans ATCC 9245-A0 afforded eight new metabolites 4–11.

Natural rubber produced in stems of the guayule plant (Parthenium argentatum) is susceptible to post-harvest degradation from microbial or thermo-oxidative processes, especially once stems are chipped. As a result, the time from harvest to extraction must be minimized to recover high quality rubber, especially in warm summer months.

Effect of Argentatins on Adipogenensis in Inflamatory Conditions
Obesity is a pathology of growing importance in the world due to its high prevalence and its association with numerous comorbidities, including cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. It is characterized by excess body fat resulting from an imbalance between caloric intake and energy expenditure.
