Growth of the scallop, Argopecten purpuratus (Lamarck, 1819), in southern Chile
Aquaculture, 1999Abstract The northern scallop, Argopecten purpuratus , has a high economic value. Its natural geographical distribution occurs only in the north of Chile. However, this species has been introduced to the south of Chile for mass culture. This area has advantages for suspended cultures, such as the existence of many sheltered, wave-protected bays and ...

Physiological responses of the Chilean scallop Argopecten purpuratus to decreasing salinities
Aquaculture, 1998Argopecten purpuratus (Chilean scallop) is a filter-feeding bivalve which inhabits sheltered areas of the north and central Chile. Considering that culture of this species has started in the south of Chile, it is of great interest to know the tolerance of this bivalve to conditions of decreasing salinity, which can occur in these locations.

Bacteriology of the scallop Argopecten purpuratus (Lamarck, 1819) cultured in Chile
Aquaculture, 1995Abstract In this investigation bacteriological analyses of the early developmental stages of Argopecten purpuratus were performed on scallops spawned in situ (hatchery), and in the laboratory under sterile conditions. The results confirmed the occurrence of vertical bacterial transmission. In spawning in the laboratory Pseudomonas, Moraxella and

The scallop, Argopecten purpuratus, is a bivalve, Pectinidae distributed along the Pacific coasts of Peru and northern Chile, between Paita (5◦S, 81◦W) and Valparaiso (33◦S, 71◦W), (Bore and Martinez 1980; Wolf and Mendo 2000; Winkler et al. 2001). The three major natural populations in A.

Cyclic AMP and the reproductive process of the scallopArgopecten purpuratus
The Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1997The level of cyclic AMP was measured in both female and male gonadal portions of the functionally hermaphrodite scallop Argopecten purpuratus. Measurements were done during both processes of spawning and gonadal recovery. To study the spawning process, samples were analyzed, before stimulation, when animals looked stimulated (with enlarged white ...

Effects of copper on the fitness of the Chilean scallop Argopecten purpuratus (Mollusca: Bivalvia)
Hydrobiologia, 2000Exposure to high concentrations of metals can affect populations and individuals at morphological, physiological, biochemical or genetic levels. Metal pollution is a source of environmental stress that can have deleterious effects on organisms and generate selective pressure upon populations.

Abstract Adult specimens of Argopecten purpuratus, obtained from Culture Centers of Tongoy Bay (Region IV, North of Chile), were conditioned at two temperatures, 16°C and 20°C, and three different diets: a mixture of pure microalgae, microalgae mixed with lipids and microalgae mixed with carbohydrates. Daily food supply was 6% of dry biomass.

A biochemical study of the larval and postlarval stages of the Chilean scallop Argopecten purpuratus
Aquaculture, 1998Abstract Eggs, larvae and postlarvae of northern scallop, Argopecten purpuratus , were collected from the experimental hatchery of the Estacion Costera de Investigaciones Marinas (ECIM) of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile at Las Cruces to compare their protein, lipid and carbohydrate composition.

A scanning electron microscopic study of the veliger larvae of the scallop argopecten purpuratus
Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1988Argopecten purpuratus is a scallop distributed in the Pacific coast of Chile and Peru. Although this species is mass cultured in both countries there is no morphological description available of the development of this bivalve except for few characterizations of some larval stages described for culture purposes. In this work veliger larvae (app. 140 pm
