ABSTRACT: The branchiuran parasite Argulus japonicus (Crustacea: Branchiura: Argulidae) was collected from the body surface of the Rosy bitterling Rhodeus ocellatus from Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. The present study represents the first record of A. japonicus obtained from Kyushu. Rhodeus ocellatus is a new host for A. japonicus.

Global diversity of fishlice (Crustacea: Branchiura: Argulidae) in freshwater
Hydrobiologia, 2007The Branchiura of freshwater habitats, consisting of the valid genera Argulus, Chonopeltis, Dipteropeltis, and Dolops, presently contains 113 valid species and 12 undescribed species. The entire group is composed of ectoparasitic species that usually live on fishes.

1992年6月に大分県佐伯市大入島白浜地先の佐伯湾（豊後水道）で養殖されていたヒラメ Paralichthys olivaceus 1尾の尾鰭と尾柄部にエラオ類の1種が4個体寄生していた。それらエラオ類の標本は紛失したが，写真に記録された外部形態から，これらはマツイウミチョウArgulus matuii Sikama, 1938に同定された。これは，マツイウミチョウの2度目の記録であると同時に，養殖海産魚からのマツイウミチョウの初記録である。ヒラメは新宿主である。1980～1997年の18年間に大分県沿岸で実施された魚病診断で57種8,165尾の養殖海産魚を検査したが，エラオ類の寄生は本例を含む3例のみであった。このことから，大分県の養殖海産魚ではエラオ類は極めて稀な寄生虫であると示唆された。

Ecological studies of host–parasite interactions in the tropics are generally restricted to descriptive taxonomic aspects. The present study had as its objective identification of the metazoan ectoparasites of piranhas Pygocentrus nattereri, Serrasalmus spilopleura and S. marginatus in lentic and lotic environments in the Pantanal region, Brazil.
