In June, 2010 ectoparasite Argulus coregoni was found in the middle section of the Kazanka River, left tributary of the Kuybyshev Water Reservoir (Republic Tatarstan, Russia). Paper deals with issues of the geographic distribution of the species, paths of its penetration and conditions, enabling occurrence of the parasite in the river.

Argulus coregoni is an ectoparasite primarily infesting freshwater salmonids. Sexually reproducing parasites such as A. coregoni are confronted with a dilemma between finding a mate and the costs involved in doing so; if mating partners are unavailable on a host, by leaving to search for a mate on a new host, the parasite is exposed to risks such as ...

Unpredictability in the temporal availability of susceptible hosts is likely to act as a selection pressure affecting the life history strategies of parasites. In highly variable environments the future of the lineage can be secured by spreading the risk, for example, by producing descendants that differ in their timing of ...

The larval development ofArgulus coregoniThorell (Crustacea: Branchiura)
Journal of Natural History, 1981Summary The larval development of Argulus coregoni from the first to the ninth stage was studied, with special reference to the morphological changes of the appendages and some other parts of the body. A newly hatched larva is a copepodid-form measuring 0·6–0·7 mm long and approaches the shape of the adult after moulting into the second stage (0·7–0·9 ...

AbstractThe link between climate changes and disease risks from various pathogens has been increasingly recognized. The effect of climatic factors on host–parasite population dynamics is particularly evident in northern latitudes where the occurrence and transmission of parasites are strongly regulated by seasonality-driven changes in environmental ...

In June, 2010, an ectoparasite, fish louse, Argulus coregoni was found on the middle part of the Kazanka River, left inflow of the Kuybyshev Water Reservoir (Republic Tatarstan, Russia). As the fish-breeding factory located at riverhead has started to grow up trout, Salmo gairdneri Richardson, last years, it is possible to consider that most probably ...

Introduction: Fish lice of the genus Argulus are among the most important ectoparasites affecting freshwater ornamental fish, causing economic losses and threatening fish health. The present study aimed to identify and characterize three species of fish lice (Argulus coregoni, A. foliaceus, and A. japonicus) collected from ornamental freshwater fish in

During the survey, some Argulus or fish lice were isolated from the skin of Carassius auratus (Linnaeus, 1758). A comparison with previously described Argulus species was conducted and the specimen was identified as Argulus coregoni Thorell, 1866. Such infections can be a major threat to fish health.
