The developmental sequence ofArgulus foliaceus(Crustacea: Branchiura)

Journal of Natural History, 1994
We describe and illustrate the complete development of Argulus foliaceus L. A metanauplius is followed by nine juvenile stages. Eggs were detected in the thorax of the female at the 11th stage. Comparisons are made between the development of A. foliaceus and the other freshwater species of Argulus currently found in the UK.

Stocking methods and parasite-induced reductions in capture: Modelling Argulus foliaceus in trout fisheries

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2012
Argulus foliaceus is a macroparasite which can have a significant impact on yield in recreational trout fisheries, partly by increasing fish mortalities but also by reducing the appetite of infected fish, making them less likely to respond to bait. The aim of this paper is to determine the impact of four commonly used fish stocking methods both on the ...

First record of Argulus foliaceus on the European eel in the British Isles

Journal of Fish Biology, 2000
In summer 1998 European eels infected with Argulus foliaceus (L.) were detected in the Erne catchment, Ireland. This is the first documented report of A. foliaceus parasitizing eels in Ireland or the U.K.

ANALYSIS OF MICROBIAL COMMUNITIES OF ECTOPARASITIC CRUSTACEANS (ARGULUS FOLIACEUS AND LERNAEA CYPRINACEA) - POTENTIAL VECTORS OF SECONDARY INFECTIONS IN FISH

In this work, we studied the taxonomic composition of bacterial communities of crustaceans of the genus Argulus and Lernaea parasitizing the skin mucosa of the Prussian carp Carassius gibelio. Our results demonstrate that the microbiota of ectoparasites can potentially act as a vector of secondary infections in fish.

Über Die Temperaturabhängigkeit Des Wachstums Und Des Häutungszyklus Von Argulus Foliaceus (L.) (Branchiura)

Crustaceana, 1979
[The effect of temperature on the postembryonic development of Argulus foliaceus (L.) has been examined. Growth, interval, and frequency of moulting are proportional. The shorter the interval of moulting and the larger the growth with successive moults, the larger is the rate of growth. The growth of A. foliaceus is influenced by temperature.

Mortality Due to Heavy Infestation of Argulus Foliaceus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Branchiura) in Pond-Reared Carp, Cyprinus Carpio L., 1758 (Pisces)

Crustaceana, 2011
Abnormal swimming and major mortalities of fish were observed by a fish farmer in his pond in which he was rearing common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in Samsun, Turkey. A total of 118 common carps of different size and weight were transferred to the laboratory and examined for ecto- and endoparasites.

SummaryExperimental Transmission of Spring viraemia of carp through carp lice (Argulus foliaceus)Rhabdovirus carpio was transmitted from infected carp to healthy carp by lice (Argulus foliaceus). Water temperature was 10 °C ± 2 °C.Three infected carp died 21, 30 and 72 days post infection respectively. All fish passed through a viraemic stage.
