From Argument Diagrams to Argumentation Mining in Texts

International Journal of Cognitive Informatics and Natural Intelligence, 2013
In this paper, the authors consider argument mining as the task of building a formal representation for an argumentative piece of text. Their goal is to provide a critical survey of the literature on both the resulting representations (i.e., argument diagramming techniques) and on the various aspects of the automatic analysis process.

Towards relation based Argumentation Mining

Proceedings of the 2nd Workshop on Argumentation Mining, 2015
We advocate a relation based approach to Argumentation Mining. Our focus lies on the extraction of argumentative relations instead of the identification of arguments, themselves. By classifying pairs of sentences according to the relation that holds between them we are able to identify sentences that may be factual when considered in isolation, but ...

Machine learning driven argument mining

2022
For thousands of years, humans have utilized argumentation to achieve a holistic understanding by presenting and contesting different views. Nowadays, achieving a common understanding in society becomes more challenging since disputes are often global, involve various interest groups, and the amount of relevant and often contradicting arguments grows ...

Utilizing Argument Mining Techniques for Argumentative Dialogue Systems

2019
This work presents a pilot study for the application of argument mining techniques in the context of argumentative Dialogue Systems. We extract the argument structure of an online debate and show how it can be utilized to generate artificial persuasive dialogues in an agent-agent scenario.

Towards Argument Mining from Dialogue

2014
Argument mining has started to yield early results in automatic analysis of text to produce representations of reason-conclusion structures. This paper addresses for the first time the question of automatically extracting such structures from dialogical settings of argument.

Argument Mining and Social Debates

2014
With this demonstration we introduce AFAlpha, a prototype of an Argument Mining tool, working in unison with Quaestio-it, an online social debating platform. While AFAlpha extracts arguments from text, as well as attack and support relations between arguments, Quaestio-it is concerned with visualising and evaluating interactive debates.
