Bycatch of skates (Elasmobranchii: Arhynchobatidae, Rajidae) in the Patagonian red shrimp fishery
Fisheries Research, 2005Abstract Landings of batoids (rays and skates) have been rising in Argentina, reaching 14 856 mt in 1998. These species are poorly known, and their low fecundity, late maturity and slow growth rates make them vulnerable to stock collapse even when subjected to low levels of fishing pressure.

First information on the Arctoraja sexoculata frequency of occurrence, ecology, and biology, from the area off the middle Kuril Islands has been provided. It is estimated that the Arctoraja sexoculata is a common bycatch species in trawl fishing for the commander squid Berryteuthis magister in this water area.

The results of long-term studies of fishing catch dynamics, biomass and size composition of stingrays off the western coast of Kamchatka from 1980 to 2019 are presented. As we show, in recent years the largest part of stingrays has been caught in the Kamchatka-Kurilskaya subzone.

This skate, labelled the ‘blonde skate’ by voyage participants, is uniformly white on all surfaces of the body and the skin is partly translucent.
