Redescription of the Rio skate Rioraja agassizii (Rajiformes: Arhynchobatidae) with notes on internal anatomy and intraspecific variation

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology, 2021
Rioraja agassizii belongs to the monotypic genus Rioraja and differs from the other Riorajini species of the genus Atlantoraja by the shape of anterior nasal flap, squamation, clasper skeleton, body measurements and color pattern. Although R.

Feeding ecology of Bathyraja macloviana (Rajiformes, Arhynchobatidae): a polychaete-feeding skate from the South-west Atlantic

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2005
The present paper analyses the diet, feeding strategy and niche width of B. macloviana in a sector of the Argentinean Continental Shelf (ACS). Individuals (n = 147) were collected from 43 sampling stations in late summer and autumn 2001.

Mechanisms and Drivers for the Establishment of Life Cycle Complexity in Myxozoan Parasites. [PDF]

open access: yesBiology (Basel), 2020
It is assumed that complex life cycles in cnidarian parasites belonging to the Myxozoa result from incorporation of vertebrates into simple life cycles exploiting aquatic invertebrates.

Complete mitochondrial genome and the phylogenetic position of the Leadhued skate Notoraja tobitukai (Rajiformes: Arhynchobatidae). [PDF]

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA B Resour, 2016
In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of the Leadhued skate Notoraja tobitukai (Rajiformes: Arhynchobatidae) was determined. It was a circular molecule (16, 799 bp), consisted of 37 genes with a typical gene order in vertebrate mitogenome. In the whole mitogenome, there were 24 bp short intergenic and 26 bp overlaps.

Design and Validation of an Open-Close Device for Integrated Environmental DNA Sampling Detects A Depth Gradient in Indian Ocean Deep-Sea Fish Assemblages. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
The goal of this study was to leverage existing survey technology to design and test an eDNA sampler that captures an integrated eDNA sample over the length of a deep‐water transect. We provide a biological interpretation of the resulting data, demonstrating the usefulness of such technology to understand the ocean environments, using fish species as ...

Dendrapta nasicola n. sp. (Copepoda: Siphonostomatoida: Lernaeopodidae) a parasite from the olfactory sacs of Bathyraja scaphiops (Norman, 1937) in the South Western Atlantic [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2020
During a parasitological survey of the olfactory sacs of 21 species of Rajiformes (Chondrichthyes) from the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean, copepods referable to DendraptaKabata (1964) (Siphonostomatoida: Lernaeopodidae) were found parasitizing the cuphead ...
