Computing Skinning Weights via Convex Duality

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We present an alternate optimization method to compute bounded biharmonic skinning weights. Our method relies on a dual formulation, which can be optimized with a nonnegative linear least squares setup. Abstract We study the problem of optimising for skinning weights through the lens of convex duality.

Fil: Abba ...

Hierarchical Differentiable Fluid Simulation

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We introduce a two‐step algorithm that significantly reduces memory usage for solving control problems using differentiable fluid simulation techniques: our method first optimizes for bulk forces at reduced resolution, then refines local details over sub‐domains while maintaining differentiability. In trading runtime for memory, it enables optimization

Research on armadillos: A review and prospectus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A detailed analysis of 1,039 scientific studies of extant armadillos (Xenarthra: Cingulata, Dasypodidae) published in the last 25 years (1989-2013) revealed substantial biases in coverage, including taxonomically, the locales where field studies were ...

Neoichnology of armadillos: Keys for the paleoecological and behavioral interpretation of fossil tetrapod burrows

open access: yes, 2023
This study is based on the analysis of burrow casts of three species of armadillos from central Argentina: Chaetophractus villosus, Chaetophractus vellerosus, and Zaedyus pichiy (Chlamyphoridae: Euphractinae).

SDFs from Unoriented Point Clouds using Neural Variational Heat Distances

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from unoriented point clouds. We first compute a small time step of heat flow (middle) and then use its gradient directions to solve for a neural SDF (right). Abstract We propose a novel variational approach for computing neural Signed Distance Fields (SDF) from ...

Volume Quantization with Flexible Singularities for Hexahedral Meshing

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We present a novel algorithm for quantization and subsequent hexahedral mesh generation from seamless volumetric maps. Quantization is the process of choosing integers that represent the numbers of hexahedral elements to be placed in each region of the volume, and transforming the seamless map into an integer‐grid map matching that choice ...

Comparisons between nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) populations in Brazil and the United States

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 1998
We compared characteristics of a population of nine-banded armadillos (Dasypus novemcinctus) studied in the southern United States with a population found in the Atlantic coastal rainforest of Brazil. Adult armadillos in Brazil weighed less than those in

Adaptive Optical Layers: Efficient Tall Cell Grids for Liquid Simulation

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Tall cell grids have been proposed as an efficient approach to accelerate large‐scale liquid simulation. In this framework, regions near the liquid surface are discretized with regular grids, while regions farther away are represented by elongated rectangular cells.
