Armillaria mellea: Honey Fungus
2023Despite being a commonly found and edible species of fungus, Armillaria mellea has a wide range of traits and applications that come as a surprise. The literature shows that there has been much research on species description, including morphology, habitat, life cycle, and components of the fungus body. It has emerged that the world of fungi offers not

Polysaccharides elaborated by Armillaria mellea (tricholomataceae)
Carbohydrate Research, 1967Abstract The annual fruit bodies of Armillaria mellea have been examined for polysaccharide content, and a polymer containing D -galactose, D -mannose, and L -fucose residues, in the molar ratio of 6.5:1:2, was isolated. Subsequent investigation has shown that it has a backbone of ga-(1→6)-linked D -galactopyranose residues, approximately every ...

Antibacterial Sesquiterpene Aryl Esters from Armillaria mellea
Journal of Natural Products, 1985Investigation of the mycelial extract of Armillaria mellea led to the isolation of the known melleolide (2a) and two new sesquiterpene aryl eters, 4-O-methylmelleolide (2b) and judeol (1c). Their structures were deduced from spectral data and that of (2b) confirmed by X-ray analysis.

Sex and diploidy in Armillaria mellea
Experimental Mycology, 1978The life cycle and sexuality of Armillaria mellea are poorly understood. The mating behavior is atypical, and laboratory fruiting is rare. Genetic studies reported herein are based upon monosporous progeny from 27 distinct fruiting bodies and reveal A. mellea as a bifactorial heterothallic fungus.

Specificity and inhibition studies of Armillaria mellea protease
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1978The action of Armillaria mellea protease has been evaluated on a number of polypeptide substrates. It has been shown to split the Pro7-Lys8 bonds in both native and oxidised lysine-vasopressin and the Ser11-Lys12 bond in glucagon. No other splits were detected in these substrates. The enzyme also caused extensive degradation of S-carboxymethyl lysozyme,

Sesquiterpene aryl esters from Armillaria mellea
Phytochemistry, 1990Abstract Three sesquiterpene orsellinates based on the Δ 2,3 -protoilludane skeleton were isolated from Armillaria mellea grown in culture. Two of the sesquiterpenes are new and have been characterized as 13-hydroxydihydromelleolide and 10α-hydroxymelleolide. The third metabolite proved to be melleolide E.

Armillaria mellea : an Ozonophilic Basidiomycete
Nature, 1963OZONE is a strong oxidizing agent and in very low concentrations is generally toxic to both micro-organisms and higher plants and animals. Davis1 and others2 have examined the bactericidal effects of ozone by growing E. coli in ozonated water solutions and found that 30 p.p.m./vol.
