Computer Networks (1976), 1981
Abstract A variety of computer networks are interconnected by gateway computers in the ARPA internetwork system. Processes on different networks may exchange messages with each other by means of an Internet Protocol which must be implemented in each subscriber (host) computer and in the gateways.

Communications of the ACM, 1967
The Advanced Research Projects Agency has probably done more to lift computer science from other disciplines and to put it on its own feet than any organization inside or outside of government. Even today, when support of computing is spread throughout the government, ARPA is practically alone in its belief that computing deserves to be a separate ...

Reliability issues in the ARPA network
Proceedings of the third ACM symposium on Data communications and Data networks Analysis and design - DATACOMM '73, 1973Since the inception of the ARPA Network1 in 1969, we have been part of the group responsible for the development of that network's communications subnet. This role has provided us with a unique opportunity for study of the problems of network reliability and the effects of attempted improvements, particularly in the context of rapid network growth. Our ...

On measured behavior of the ARPA network
Proceedings of the May 6-10, 1974, national computer conference and exposition on - AFIPS '74, 1974The purpose of this paper is to present and evaluate the results of recent measurements of the ARPA network. We first discuss the tools available for performing these measurements. We then describe the results of a particular experiment, which consisted of data collection over a continuous seven day period.

The ARPA network design decisions
Computer Networks (1976), 1977Abstract A number of key decisions made in the design of the ARPA network over a five-year period serve as the context for an analysis of the fundamental properties and requirements of packet-switching networks and formulation of the fundamental criteria for evaluating network performance.

Flow control in the ARPA network
Computer Networks (1976), 1976Abstract The issues of flow control in packet-switching computer networks is discussed, including the reasons why it is required and several proposed mechanisms for its implementation. Flow control schemes used in the ARPANET are analyzed to show concrete examples of strengths and weaknesses.

Opportunities at ARPA, NSF, and elsewhere
ACM SIGMOD Record, 1995We first report the relatively minor development on the federal budget. We then touch upon announcements from ARPA, NSF, Defense Nuclear Agency, Rome Laboratory, US Special Operations Command, and Office of National Drug Control Policy. We also report a recent ARPA reorganization.

Performance Measurements on the ARPA Computer Network
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1971An extensive measurement capability has been implemented in the interface message processors (IMP) of the ARPA network of computers. These measurement facilities were implemented by the network contractor, Bolt, Beranek, and Newman, Inc., to meet the measurement needs of the University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) network measurement center, and ...
