Estimation of source separation with an array of arbitrary shape

International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002
Analytical expressions are obtained for the Cramer-Rao bound on average bearing and angular separation of two independent far-field sources radiating narrowband Gaussian noise. It is shown that all relevant features of array geometry are summarized by the conventional beam pattern function.

The partitioned eigenvector method for towed array shape estimation

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1996
The eigenvector method for estimating the positions of the receivers of a towed array is based on an eigendecomposition of the cross-spectral density matrix of the receiver outputs. The method assumes a signal scenario consisting of a single plane wave source in the presence of independent noise. This paper derives expressions for the bias and variance

Localization and array shape estimation using software defined radio array testbed

2014 IEEE 8th Sensor Array and Multichannel Signal Processing Workshop (SAM), 2014
The emergence of software defined radio (SDR) aims to increase flexibility as well as reduce cost, size, weight and power (SWAP) inherent in traditional hardware radios. This paper is concerned with addressing issues associated with the formation of an array system from multiple SDR boards where each has an independent local oscillators (LO) in a multi-

Generalization of the Subspace-Based Array Shape Estimations

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 2004
This work describes a nonplane wave signal model for array shape estimation in ocean environments. Though existing array shape estimation methods, which utilize reference sources, show good performance in the environment where plane wave assumption is satisfied, their performances are degraded significantly in more realistic nonplane wave situation ...

Improved estimation of the shape of towed sonar arrays

Proceedings of the 21st IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37510), 2004
Low frequency passive sonar systems often use towed line arrays. In order to properly beamform the elements in the array, an accurate estimate of the array shape is required. We consider a submarine towed instrumented with 12 heading sensors used to estimate its shape.

A method for estimating the shape of towed array based on genetic algorithm

2017 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing, Communications and Computing (ICSPCC), 2017
As the complexity of the ocean environment, shape of towed array changes with time and space, so the accurate measurement shape of towed array is the key to improve the performance of signal processing. To solve this problem this paper proposes an estimation method based on genetic algorithm, firstly, established the objective function according to a ...

Shape estimation and self-noise analysis for towed arrays

Proceedings of ICASSP '94. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2002
Towed line arrays of hydrophones are used in the underwater environment to detect weak signals, to resolve closely-spaced contacts and to estimate the bearing and other properties of acoustic sources. The detection performance of a towed array is limited by its self-noise.

Regularized Inversion for Towed-Array Shape Estimation

2001
This chapter describes a new approach to the inverse problem of estimating the shape of a ship-towed hydrophone array using near-field acoustic measurements. The data consist of the relative travel times of arrivals along direct and reflected paths from sources deployed by two consort ships maintaining station with the moving tow ship (the “dual-shot ...

DOAV Estimation Using L-Shaped Antenna Array Configuration

2020 IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology (ISSPIT), 2020
To estimate the two-dimensional Directions of Arrival (DOA) of plane waves, a planar array is often used. The L-Shaped antenna structure provides a mechanism to estimate the 2D parameters without using a fully populated planar array. This antenna array geometry has been studied when we assume the source is stationary in the observation interval.

Broadband eigenvector methods for towed array shape estimation with a single source

1996 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing Conference Proceedings, 2002
This paper investigates two techniques for extending the narrowband (NB) eigenvector method for towed array shape estimation to process broadband sources. These techniques are the weighted incoherent broadband processor (WIB) and the weighted quasi-coherent broadband processor (WQB).
