Design and evaluation of V-shaped arrays for 2-D DOA estimation
2008 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing, 2008A new method for optimum design of V-shaped arrays is presented for azimuth and elevation angle estimation simultaneously. The design criterion is based on the Cramer-Rao Bound (CRB) for joint estimation where the coupling effect between the azimuth and elevation direction of arrival (DOA) angles is taken into account.

Posture estimation of hose-shaped robot by using active microphone array
Advanced Robotics, 2015Hose-shaped rescue robots have been developed for searching narrow spaces such as under collapsed buildings. The posture estimation independent of the past history is critical, because conventional inertial-sensor-based posture estimation has two main problems; a cumulative error problem peculiar to inertial sensors, and a sudden posture change problem

Decoupled 2-D Direction of Arrival Estimation in L-Shaped Array
IEEE Communications Letters, 2017In this letter, we propose a novel decoupled method for 2-D direction of arrival (2-D DOA) estimation in L-shaped array. Specifically, in the proposed method, the Jacobi-Anger expansion is utilized to decouple the elevation angle from the azimuth angle, which means that the reconstructed manifold of the L-shaped array is the product of the two matrices

A deterministic approach for 2D-DOA estimation based on a V-shaped array and a virtual array concept
2008 IEEE 19th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications, 2008The problem of estimating both the azimuth and elevation angles associated with narrow band plane waves using antenna arrays is comprehensively studied by many researchers. Various array structures have been investigated; however, L-shaped arrays that consist of two independent uniform linear arrays at right angle to each other are proved to be the ...

Performance characteristics of a three-dimensional array shape estimator
OCEANS 82, 1982Sonar line arrays have become increasingly important for seismic exploration, underwater communication, tactical systems, and oceanographic studies. A fundamental requirement for optimal array performance is locating the hydrophone positions with respect to one another.

A new array structure for estimating 2-D direction-of-arrival: Y-shaped array
Journal of Electronics (China), 1996This paper presents a new array structure for estimating two-dimensional (2-D) direction-of-arrivals (DOAs). The structure is called Y-shaped array, which has 10% better accuracy potential than the newly-developed L-ahaped array. A great merit is its ability to estimate 2-D DOAs whichever directions the arriving signals come from, compared with L ...

APPLICATION OF A MAXIMUM LIKELIHOOD TYPE ESTIMATOR TO THE TOWED ARRAY SHAPE ESTIMATION PROBLEM
Arrays and Beamforming in Sonar 1996At the TNO Physics and Electronics Laboratory (TNO-FEL), for a number of decades, the behaviour and performance of towed sonar systems has been studied extensively. Since the performance of towed sonars highly depends on the shape of the hydrophone array, the underwater acoustics group started performing research in this field in the 1980's. Currently,

Array Shape Estimation Using a Hidden Markov Model
1993In this paper a hidden Markov model (HMM) technique for the estimation of the shape of a towed array is presented. It is assumed that there is a farfield source radiating sound containing possibly weak spectral lines. The technique uses either the Fourier coefficients at a given frequency computed from a single time block or the maximal eigenvector of ...
